Japanese Optimization Nutritional Food Association's Initiative for Children in Need
On August 6, 2025, the Japanese Optimization Nutritional Food Association (JONFA), led by Chairman Hiroshi Ito, announced its participation in the 9th National Food Bank Child Support Project. This unparalleled initiative has delivered approximately 12,000 certified meals through the National Food Bank Promotion Council to 36 food bank organizations across the country from July to August 2025.
The current state of child poverty in Japan is alarming. According to a survey by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the poverty rate among children under 17 is approximately 11.5% as of 2021, which means about one in 8.7 children is living in poverty. Recognizing this pressing issue, the National Food Bank Promotion Council has launched a nationwide effort to expand food assistance to low-income families with children during the long school breaks when school lunches are unavailable. This project will run from July 1 to August 31, 2025.
In alignment with this mission, JONFA has contributed an assortment of six types of optimized nutritional food to support this vital cause. These meals have been specifically designed to accommodate individual nutritional needs based on factors such as age, gender, and lifestyle, ensuring that every meal is balanced and appropriate for varied dietary requirements.
Selection of Certified Products Provided
Among the meals delivered, a selection of certified optimized nutritional foods has been made available, highlighting the association's commitment to providing healthy and diverse options to those in need.
Continuous Support for Nutritional Assistance
JONFA aims to continue its mission of supplying food assistance to those in need, prioritizing optimized nutritional food that offers balanced nutrition and a variety of choices. The association understands the importance of not only feeding those in need but doing so with quality food that contributes to their overall well-being.
Commitment to the Food Environment Project
These efforts are part of a broader initiative called the 'Food Environment Project', which promotes the reduction of food waste, encourages food donations, and ensures access to food resources. For further details on this project, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs provides comprehensive information on its special website.
