Understanding the Current State of Trump Tariffs and Practical Responses
The Japan Planning Institute (JPI) is set to hold an informative seminar titled "Understanding the Current State of Trump Tariffs and Practical Responses," featuring expert speakers from Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu LLP, such as Partner and Attorney Hiroshi Osawa, and Counsel and Attorney Ryosaku Kondo. Scheduled for July 23, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, this seminar aims to provide crucial insights into the evolving landscape of trade tariffs under the Trump administration.
As the second Trump administration adopts an America First policy, it has introduced numerous tariffs across various sectors including automobiles, steel, aluminum, semiconductors, and pharmaceuticals through Section 232 exemptions. This has created a situation where U.S. trade policy remains unpredictable, uncertain, and fluid. For Japanese companies, it is essential to thoroughly understand these developments and develop appropriate responses.
During the seminar, participants will benefit from the benefits of the speakers' extensive expertise; both legal specialists with public service backgrounds will clarify the current tariff measures and outline the recommended approaches for Japanese firms.

Roadmap of Trump 2.0 Trade Policy and Legal Basis: The speakers will delve into the strategic direction of the new trade policies and assess the legal underpinnings that support these moves.
2.
