4th Global Seminar on Sustainable and Earthquake Resilient Structures



The Green Innovation Center at Okayama University is proud to announce the 4th Global Seminar on Sustainable and Earthquake Resilient Structures. Scheduled for November 12, 2025, from 14:00 to 16:00, this seminar will be held at the KIBINOVE Co-Creation Innovation Lab located within the Tsushima Campus, Okayama University. This event invites you to engage in a rich exchange of ideas with global experts in the field.

Notably, five distinguished structural design researchers from the USA, New Zealand, and Japan will share their insights and innovative approaches regarding sustainability and earthquake resilience in structural engineering.

  • - Venue: KIBINOVE Co-Creation Innovation Lab, Okayama University, 5th Floor, Tsushima Campus, Okayama.

  • - Language: Presentations will be made in English; however, the Q&A session will be conducted in Japanese. Presentation slides will also include Japanese text.

  • - 14:00 - 14:05 - Opening session and welcome message by Hamood Alwashali, Chair of the Green Innovation Center at Okayama University.
  • - 14:05 - 14:25 - Dr. Pablo Zavattieri (USA, Purdue University) presents on “Design and Analysis of Smart Architected Structures for Earthquake Applications.”
  • - 14:25 - 14:45 - Dr. Hyungsuk Lim (New Zealand, The University of Canterbury) discusses “Harnessing Low-Value Bioresources and Advanced Structural Systems.”
  • - 14:45 - 15:05 - Dr. Santiago Pujol (New Zealand, The University of Canterbury) shares insights on “Disruption is Inaction.”
  • - 15:10 - 15:30 - Dr. Ke Jiang (New Zealand, The University of Canterbury) presents on “Stainless Steel Tubular Joints.”
  • - 15:30 - 15:50 - Dr. Masaki Maeda (Japan, Tohoku University) discusses the “Development of CLT Steel Hybrid Structural System for Promotion of Timber Construction.”
  • - 15:50 - 16:00 - Closing remarks.
