Schmatz Cocoon City: A New German Culinary Experience in Saitama

Discover Schmatz Cocoon City

Saitama is about to welcome its first-ever Schmatz restaurant featuring an exciting menu centered around pasta, pizza, and grilled dishes. Set to open its doors on April 30, the Schmatz Cocoon City brings a distinct taste of Germany right to the heart of Japan. Nestled in the bustling Cocoon City shopping complex, this new establishment aims to combine the rich flavors of traditional German cooking with a local twist.

A Culinary Journey

At the Schmatz Cocoon City, patrons can indulge in a variety of dishes that draw inspiration from Germany’s rich culinary heritage. The restaurant features original craft beers brewed in Germany, adding another level of authenticity to the dining experience. Guests can enjoy delicious rye-based oven-baked pizzas, homemade ravioli pasta served with a rich sauce reminiscent of traditional "Maultaschen", and a selection of delectable mini-sausages. These items reflect the essence of German cuisine while providing a unique dining experience.

Notably, there are grilled options including succulent domestic pork ribs and perfectly roasted meats and fish, bringing that “just off the grill” flavor straight to the table. With a maximum capacity to host up to 100 guests, Schmatz Cocoon City is ideal for everything from intimate gatherings to larger events.

Creating Moments of Happiness

Schmatz, translating to sounds of joy, envisions creating moments filled with happiness through delightful food and drinks shared among friends. Founders Chris and Mark launched this initiative with a mission to spread the joys of German cuisine and craft beers, making them approachable and enjoyable for everyone. They began their journey by introducing authentic German dishes to locals in Nakameguro, and over the years, they have built a devoted following across 35 venues in the Tokyo metropolitan area and Nagoya (as of November 2024).

As Cocoon City celebrates its 10th anniversary, the opening of Schmatz's first pasta, pizza, and grill venue is a fitting tribute to the community that has embraced them so warmly.
