Celebrating 1,000 Households Supporting the New Kanagote Solar Farm

Celebrating Renewable Energy with Community Support

In a groundbreaking achievement for renewable energy, Updater Inc. has announced that the Kanagote Solar Farm, located in Odawara, has garnered support from 1,000 households starting in May 2025. This innovative initiative, part of the Everyone Electricity service, allows users to support the solar farm through a small monthly contribution from their energy bills. The goal is to create a visible connection between energy producers and consumers, emphasizing the importance of community in sustainable practices.

The Power of Community Support

This milestone marks the first time a solar power facility in Japan has reached such a significant number of supporters. To commemorate this achievement, Updater Inc. is collaborating with Inoue Sake Brewing, a historic sake producer in Kanagawa Prefecture, for a special event titled Suijō. This event will showcase sake made using rice cultivated at the Kanagote Solar Farm, utilizing renewable energy exclusively for the brewing process.

Scheduled for September 27, 2025, the Suijō event will provide participants with an immersive experience on-site, where they will get to interact directly with energy producers and brewers. This level of transparency is what sets Everyone Electricity apart—using blockchain technology, the company makes it clear who is generating the electricity and how it's produced.

During the event, participants can take part in activities such as rice harvesting and learn about the unique process of solar sharing, which highlights the farm's commitment to sustainable agriculture combined with renewable energy production.

Everyone Electricity and Its Mission

Everyone Electricity prides itself on its 100% renewable energy supply, sourced from various projects such as solar, wind, and biomass across Japan’s diverse landscapes. What makes their service unique is the integration of blockchain technology, which allows patrons to trace the source of their electricity, ensuring it comes from environmentally friendly sources developed through community consensus.

The Support Your Power Plant program enables users to select a power plant to receive a monthly contribution of 100 yen per household from Updater Inc. This contribution comes at no additional cost to the consumer and aims to foster a closer relationship between energy producers and consumers. Not only does this financial support enhance the stability of power plants, but it also allows them to innovate and sustain their operations in a challenging economic environment.

A Look into Kanagote Solar Farm

Located in the Ashigara region, the Kanagote Solar Farm practices solar sharing—deploying solar panels on agricultural land while simultaneously growing crops. The rice produced on-site is used not just for consumption but also as a key ingredient in the brewing of sake. The collaboration with Inoue Sake Brewing helps showcase what is possible when renewable energy and local agriculture come together to create unique products.

The Suijō sake, resulting from this collaboration, is emblematic of the regional philosophy that its name embodies—‘using surplus benefits for future generations and the community’, inspired by local historical figure Tadataka Ninomiya.

Upcoming Special Events

As part of the celebration of reaching 1,000 supporting households, a two-part premium event series will be introduced. The first event, taking place in September 2025, will include a rice harvesting experience followed by a social gathering with community members. Participants can directly engage with the team from Kanagote, who manage both the farm and the solar facility, to understand the symbiotic relationship between agriculture, energy production, and community involvement.

The second event is scheduled for March 2026 and will focus on the sake-making process, offering a behind-the-scenes experience at Inoue Sake Brewing.

Join us for this exciting venture into renewable practices where you can connect with the community, share experiences, and enjoy delicious sake made from locally sourced, sustainable ingredients. In conclusion, the initiative set forth by Updater Inc. and the Kanagote Solar Farm illustrates the potential for community-supported sustainable practices within energy and agriculture. The achievements thus far not only underscore a new model for energy distribution but also enhance community ties and engagement, fostering a future focused on sustainability and collaboration.
