Thermos' Innovative Reusable Container Service and My Bottle Promotion Project
Thermos Co., a global leader in vacuum insulation technology headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, is dedicated to promoting a comfortable and environmentally friendly lifestyle. On April 26, 2026, the company successfully conducted its final My Bottle Promotion Project for the season, showcasing impressive outcomes of its sustainability efforts. In collaboration with the basketball team, Alvark Tokyo, Thermos has entered into a gold partnership agreement to actively work towards reducing environmental impact.
As part of their ongoing initiatives for the 2025-2026 season, Thermos and Alvark Tokyo are implementing strategies to minimize plastic waste from bottled drinks at home games. Starting from this season, they introduced the comprehensive Reusable Drink Container Service at Thermos booths within the home game venues.
Key Initiatives for the 2025-2026 Season
1.
Implementation of Reusable Drink Container Service: This initiative aims to cut down the consumption of disposable drink containers at the newly launched Alvark Tokyo home arena, TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO, which opened in October 2025. The Reusable Drink Container Service replaces single-use containers with reusable vacuum-insulated tumblers, fostering a circular system for container use. For this season, they offered a limited supply of 250 reusable tumblers at no cost per game, providing discounts on drink prices for users.
Over the course of 30 home games, this initiative successfully reduced the use of approximately 3,100 disposable drink containers, with around 1,800 attendees utilizing the service.
2.
Continuation of My Bottle Promotion Project: Between October 2025 and April 2026, the My Bottle Promotion Project asked fans to bring their own bottles to home games, resulting in significant waste reduction. Statistics show participation by 7,677 individuals using personal bottles and 5,532 social media posts about the event. An average of 109 kg of aluminum cans and plastic bottles was estimated to be disposed of per game, translating to around 13 g of waste per attendee.
3.
THERMOS Seating Area: This dedicated seating area allowed fans to enjoy unlimited drinks in vacuum-insulated tumblers to further reduce disposable container usage. Offering this seated package across all 30 games led to the elimination of roughly 1,350 disposable drink containers.
4.
Collection of Used Stainless Steel Vacuum Bottles: As part of their recycling initiative, Thermos collected used stainless steel bottles at the home games, weighing in at a total of 93.5 kg for all 30 games. The collected bottles undergo processing such as crushing and sorting to be repurposed into new products.
With the support of all participants in the 2025-2026 My Bottle Promotion Project and the Reusable Drink Container Service, Thermos looks forward to another season of reducing plastic waste while enjoying the perfect temperature drinks during sports events with Alvark Tokyo.
