Madison Gallery Launches Radenko Milak's Four Seasons Interrupted This Fall

Madison Gallery Presents Radenko Milak's "Four Seasons Interrupted"

Overview

Madison Gallery, a prominent contemporary art venue in Southern California, is thrilled to host Radenko Milak's latest exhibition, "Four Seasons Interrupted," from October 15 to December 15, 2025. This exhibition marks Milak's second solo show at the gallery and demonstrates his celebrated talent through a series of new watercolors, provoking thoughts about climate change and its impact on our environment.

The Artist

Radenko Milak, a Bosnian artist born in Travnik in 1980, gained international recognition when he represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at the prestigious Venice Biennale in 2017 with his work, "University of Disaster." Since then, his art has become part of esteemed collections across the globe, including the Albertina in Vienna, the Ludwig Museum in Budapest, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb.

Exhibition Theme

In this new series of 12 to 14 meticulously crafted watercolors, Milak delves deep into the disconcerting effects of climate disruption on the four classical seasons. His work evokes a haunting narrative of a world where the distinctions between seasons are blurred. Imagine a winter that drags into spring, sweltering heatwaves enveloping April, and a surprising snowfall in October. Set against the stunning backdrop of New York City, these ethereal landscapes challenge our perception of time, memory, and the natural order.

Milak notes, "Climate change erases seasonal transitions, and people - detached from natural cycles - continue to live in the rhythm of infrastructures that know no pause." He illustrates a reality where the relentless glow of urban life causes nature to lose its contours, replacing the cyclical patterns of the seasons with the confines of linear time dictated by technological advancements.

Artistic Style and Presentation

Milak's watercolors are characterized by their monumental scale, often stretching from floor to ceiling, creating an immersive experience for viewers. At first glance, his work might resemble archival photographs, yet upon closer inspection, they reveal the intricate craftsmanship involved. This exhibition not only includes familiar themes but also weaves in new elements that expand Milak's narrative exploration of climate, history, and human perception.

Lorna York, the owner of Madison Gallery, expressed her admiration for Milak's vision, stating, "What struck me most about Radenko's vision is his ability to transform the silent yet dramatic loss of seasonal rhythm into something we can see and feel. 'Four Seasons Interrupted' captures that unsettling transition from a world once guided by cyclical change to a reality of continuous, monotonous duration."
