Tokyo Universal Philharmonic Orchestra's 44th Regular Concert
The Tokyo Universal Philharmonic Orchestra (Uniphil) is excited to announce its 44th Regular Concert, which will take place on September 19, 2025. This highly anticipated event features the exceptional young pianist, Fumiya Koido, winner of the 87th Japan Music Competition. Meet Fumiya Koido
Fumiya Koido, a rising star in the classical music scene, has made headlines by winning numerous prestigious competitions, including the 87th Japan Music Competition and the 15th Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition in the UK. He toured the UK with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in May 2022, earning rave reviews for his captivating performances. Koido has collaborated with major orchestras such as the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and Japan Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with esteemed conductors like Taijiro Iimori, Ken Takase, and Junichi Hirokami.
Originally from Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture, Koido graduated with honors from the Toho Gakuen School of Music. He completed the Soloist Diploma Course at the same institution and went on to finish his studies at the Accademia Pianistica Incontri col Maestro in Italy. Currently, he is enrolled in the Post-Diploma Course at the same academy. Koido is a student of renowned instructors Boris Petrushansky, Mina Fukagawa, and Mamiko Suda. About Tokyo Universal Philharmonic Orchestra (Uniphil)
Founded in 1973, the Tokyo Universal Philharmonic Orchestra aims to promote arts and culture among young people and has undergone several transformations over the years. Originally known as the Japan New Symphony Orchestra, it was renamed in 1977 as the Tokyo Universal Philharmonic Orchestra. Marking its 52nd anniversary, the orchestra has conducted over 100 self-produced concerts, such as regular performances, the First Dream Concert, and concerts tailored for children from zero years old.
Since 2012, under the direction of Chief Conductor Katsu Matsuoka, Uniphil has become known as an orchestra with a "soulful sound". They often collaborate with choirs, and their concerts have included works that make opera and ballet accessible to audiences of all ages. In 2024, the orchestra will perform Johann Strauss's operetta "Die Fledermaus" as part of the Ota City Aprico Opera 2024.
