For small operators, who are already managing costs for fuel, driver salaries, and insurance, such delays can create severe cash-flow gaps. To address this pressing issue, many carriers resort to invoice factoring—essentially selling their unpaid invoices to a factoring company at a discount to receive immediate cash. Ziegler pointed out a common misconception where trucking companies may perceive a 2% or 3% factoring fee as manageable, ignoring that this can translate to an annualized interest rate as high as 36%!
