A. Lange & Söhne Unveils Two New Masterpieces

A. Lange & Söhne has recently launched two stunning new models of mechanical watches, the Richard Lange Jumping Second and the 1815 Tourbillon, highlighting the brand's commitment to precision engineering and luxurious elegance.

Richard Lange Jumping Second

The Richard Lange Jumping Second combines technical sophistication with a distinctive elegance. Even after nine years since its debut, this timepiece remains exemplary in terms of both movement accuracy and visibility due to its unique integration of a power control mechanism, a jumping second feature, and a zero-reset mechanism. The combination of a warm pink gold regulator dial and a cool white gold case creates a striking visual contrast that enhances the individuality of this limited edition, of which only 100 pieces are available.

The Jumping Second focuses on the smallest unit of time—seconds. This timepiece features a prominent circle displaying seconds on the upper part of the dial, with smaller circles for minutes and hours positioned at the lower left and lower right, respectively. When the power reserve dips below 10 hours, a red triangle indicator in the intersection of the hour and minute circles flashes to remind the wearer to wind the watch.

Innovative Mechanisms

Underneath the dial of the Richard Lange Jumping Second, three groundbreaking mechanisms work in harmony: the power control mechanism, the jumping second mechanism, and the zero-reset mechanism. The power control mechanism ensures a consistent energy supply to the watch's balance, maintaining movement accuracy regardless of whether the watch is fully wound or not. This energy is released for a brief moment every second, providing the necessary power to drive the jumping second hand. The complex interplay of the levers within the zero-reset mechanism provides instantaneous zeroing of the second hand when the crown is pulled, allowing for precise time adjustments.

The sapphire crystal case back lets enthusiasts admire the intricate and harmonious dance of these mechanisms.

1815 Tourbillon

Accompanying the Richard Lange is the 1815 Tourbillon, crafted from platinum 950, which embodies exquisite artistry and advanced watchmaking techniques. This special model features a tourbillon with a stop-seconds function, uniquely designed to showcase its mechanism through a large opening at 6 o’clock, enhancing the visibility of its intricate workings that counteract the effects of gravity on timekeeping.

The beauty of the 1815 Tourbillon shines through its jet black grand feu enamel dial, elegantly combined with the platinum case. The grand feu enamel dial undergoes a meticulous process involving the application of enamel pigments on a base dial crafted from white gold and firing through multiple cycles to achieve the final finish. Hand-applied angling around the circular opening further emphasizes the tourbillon while preserving the integrity of the enamel, a task necessitating extraordinary skill. Creating this masterpiece involves over a hundred steps, which means that completing just one piece takes several weeks.
