Innovative AI Traffic Solutions for Smart Cities at Expo in Barcelona
AI Traffic Solutions to Transform Urban Mobility
In an exciting showcase of cutting-edge technology, AglaiaSense and Leopard Imaging are set to demonstrate their innovative AI traffic sensing solutions at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona from November 3 to November 5, 2026. This collaboration exemplifies the burgeoning intersection of artificial intelligence and urban mobility, aiming to enhance city living while prioritizing privacy.
About the Presentation
The duo's project, named AI-VIVA (Vision Intelligence for València and Arterials), has been recognized as a finalist in the fifth urban challenge hosted by Barcelona Innova Lab Mobility (BILM). This initiative promotes the integration of AI into traffic-light regulation, showcasing the practical applications of technology to manage urban traffic more efficiently.
During the expo, attendees will witness a live demonstration featuring AglaiaSense's state-of-the-art MS500 and GS500 cameras, enhanced by the AglaiaSense AI Box, which operates using NVIDIA technology. This setup empowers the cameras to conduct edge processing, enabling them to manage multiple intersections with improved precision and responsiveness.
Powered by cutting-edge Sony IMX500 and IMX501 intelligent vision sensors, these cameras provide real-time analysis of traffic conditions, classifying and counting vehicles, buses, cyclists, and pedestrians inside the device. What sets this technology apart is its ability to rapidly discard raw video within 400 to 800 milliseconds, transmitting only anonymous metadata. This innovative approach allows cities to seamlessly integrate the collected data into signal-control software, allowing for adaptive traffic light management based on real-time demand.
Technical Specifications
The MS500 camera, designed for energy efficiency, operates at an average power of about 2 Watts, delivers 1080p video quality, and connects through standard street-light sockets. On the other hand, the GS500 embodies a more robust solution with dual 4K capabilities and operates at 6.5 Watts on average, equipped with features like Ethernet, LTE Cat 4, and GPS connectivity. Notably, both models boast an IP66 rating and can function efficiently in extreme temperatures ranging from -20 °C to +65 °C.
One of the key advantages of these cameras is their minimal bandwidth requirements, consuming more than 95% less bandwidth than traditional CCTV-based monitoring systems. Their compatibility with existing infrastructure means cities can deploy them on pre-existing poles without the need for trenching or new installations, thus accelerating deployment.
