Miffy & Books: Celebrating 70 Years of Joy
In June 2025, Kinokuniya Company, led by its Chairman Masashi Takai, is set to release a special collection of original merchandise themed around Miffy to commemorate the beloved character's 70th anniversary. This collection will be available at 71 stores across Japan and 36 stores in seven countries, as well as various university bookstores and e-commerce platforms both domestically and internationally.
A Tribute to an Icon
Remember the first book you encountered as a child? Many of us cherish the memories of being read picture books by adults. It is this heartfelt connection that inspired the creation of Miffy by Dutch artist Dick Bruna, who introduced the little bunny to the world 70 years ago. In Japan, Miffy was warmly embraced and published as 'Chisana Usako-chan' by Fukuinkan Shoten, forever capturing the hearts of children and adults alike.
The collaboration between Kinokuniya and Miffy aims to foster a love for reading, especially among young children who represent the future generation of readers. By offering original goods alongside the storybooks they cherish, the initiative aspires to instill a joy for stories and literature from an early age.
As Kinokuniya approaches its 100th anniversary in 2027, the company is committed to continuing its legacy of enriching lives through literature and fostering meaningful connections between readers and books.
