Promoting Employee Well-Being at SEED Corporation
On July 1, 2026, SEED Corporation, a prominent manufacturer and seller of contact lenses based in Bunkyo, Tokyo, took a bold step towards enhancing the health and well-being of its employees. The initiative aimed to tackle the growing issues of sedentary lifestyles and declining physical fitness in today’s diverse work environments.
The Importance of Employee Health
In the recent years, the shift towards desk-based work has raised significant concerns about physical inactivity and its negative impact on employee health. Recognizing the need for more proactive health measures, SEED Corporation organized a comprehensive health assessment and exercise program for interested employees.
Key Features of the Health Program
Health Assessments

- - Assessment Items: Grip strength, standing forward bend, stepping counter, eye-closed single-leg stand, vertical jump.
Exercise Classes
- - Class Title: “Refresh Your Mind and Body – Recovery from Shoulder Pain, Lower Back Pain, and Eye Strain”
- - Instructor: Yuichi Kinoshita (Senior Emergency and First Aid Officer at the Japan Gymnastics Research Institute)
On the day of the event, Yuichi Kinoshita led a group of eager participants through five fitness assessments followed by an engaging exercise class designed to alleviate common work-related ailments such as shoulder tightness and eye strain.
Engaging Activities
The fitness testing involved various activities to provide feedback on individual health metrics, which can be beneficial in enhancing future health initiatives and improving exercise habits. Participants celebrated good performance results, fostering a sense of camaraderie among them, which encouraged further communication and bonding.
The exercise class featured enjoyable stretching activities, prompting laughter and smiles among the participants as they followed Kinoshita’s cues. These stretches were designed to be accessible, even for those sitting at their desks, making it easy for employees to incorporate them into their daily routines. As the session progressed, participants reported feeling the comforting effects of the stretches, indicating the session's success.
Feedback from Participants
Following the assessments and classes, many participants shared their thoughts, expressing the desire to adopt more regular exercise habits, especially in light of their daily sedentary routines. Common sentiments included, “I felt the need for more exercise” and “The stretches were simple enough to incorporate into my daily routine— I plan to make them a part of my life.”

In addition to this initiative, SEED Corporation has committed to providing its employees with ongoing health resources. Starting July 2026, the company will launch a “Health Communication” section on its intranet, providing valuable wellness information directly to employees.
