Blockchain for Good Alliance Unveils Global Accelerator in Partnership with UNDP to Foster Innovation

Blockchain for Good Alliance Unveils Global Accelerator and Fund with UNDP

On April 24, 2025, the Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA), a global non-profit initiative aimed at leveraging blockchain technology for social good, announced a groundbreaking partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and EMURGO Labs. This collaboration introduced the SDG Blockchain Accelerator, a bold initiative designed to harness blockchain solutions to address the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The primary objective of this program is to empower UNDP personnel and partners with the necessary knowledge, technology, and mentoring needed to develop and scale blockchain-based solutions that tackle pressing economic development challenges. This multi-year accelerator will facilitate two cohorts annually, each lasting four months, focusing on capacity building, solution development, and ecosystem growth.

With support from a global network of industry experts, the accelerator aims to generate up to 40 blockchain solutions aligned with the SDGs. It will also create a resource center, open-source tools, and promote cross-chain collaboration to amplify blockchain's impact in development sectors.

The leadership of Glenn Tan, Managing Partner at BGA, in conjunction with UNDP's AltFinLab, is pivotal in ensuring this partnership reaches five global regions to provide funding and strategic support for blockchain projects addressing the 17 SDGs. Tan remarked, "The blockchain technology is more than just a technical framework; it has the potential to reshape how we address humanity's most urgent challenges. This accelerator is an invitation for innovators worldwide to leverage blockchain for sustainable development."

Teodor Petricevic, who heads the UNDP accelerator, further emphasized the potential of blockchain as a transformational force in tackling socio-economic inequality and driving innovation.

The Role of Bybit in Supporting Sustainable Initiatives

As a founding supporter of BGA, the cryptocurrency exchange Bybit has been closely involved in multiple initiatives aimed at promoting blockchain for the greater good. Through the Bybit Pool initiative, Bybit has allocated 1 million USD in funding to support EthicHub, a blockchain platform that empowers small farmers. This contribution underlines the role of ethical financing models and showcases blockchain's potential for creating transparent supply chains.

Expanding Influence Across Europe

In January 2025, BGA made significant strides by officially expanding its operations in Europe. This was marked by participation in a strategic roundtable in Brussels, organized by UNDP, focusing on enhancing the impact of emerging technologies and entrepreneurship in the Western Balkans. The roundtable gathered 30 key delegates from UNDP, the European Commission, and notable Web3 foundations including Ethereum Foundation, Solana Labs, and others.

BGA is committed to creating grassroots initiatives and forming strategic partnerships as part of its broader European strategy. As blockchain recognition grows as a catalyst for transparent and inclusive development, BGA is eager to collaborate with organizations sharing the same values to foster actionable solutions and position blockchain as a cornerstone for digital equity and innovation throughout the continent.
