Celebrate the Splendor of 'Suzukaze Bamboo Lights' at Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo
This summer marks a significant milestone for Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo, located in Bunkyo City, Tokyo. The iconic Yuzen Tower, a registered cultural property of Japan, celebrates its 100th anniversary this July, having been relocated from the Takamiyama Chikurin Temple in Higashihiroshima. To commemorate this event, the hotel will host a remarkable garden display called "Suzukaze Bamboo Lights," launching on July 16, 2025.
A Journey Through Time
The installation features 100 bamboo spheres artfully arranged in a curvilinear formation in the lawn area before the Yuzen Tower. This design symbolizes the passage of time from the tower’s relocation to the present. Each bamboo sphere will be accompanied by colorful windmills, inspired by the copper tiles and ceiling designs of the tower, reflecting fragments of history and memories through their graceful rotation in the wind. Additionally, bamboo lanterns crafted from materials sourced from the original location of the Yuzen Tower will evoke the storied past of the Takamiyama Chikurin Temple.
As dusk falls, the bamboo spheres and lanterns will be illuminated, creating an enchanting river of lights that glimmers like the Milky Way when viewed from the hotel’s higher floors. This mesmerizing nighttime landscape promises an extraordinary experience for visitors. You can also enjoy the ongoing garden experience, "Sky Yuzen Tower (Pagoda)," simultaneously, offering a spectacular view of the tower floating in a sea of clouds amidst the bamboo lights.
"Suzukaze" translates to the cool breeze felt around the beginning of autumn, which evokes a sense of relief from summer’s heat. This garden display aims to provide solace and joyous memories to its visitors.
Family-Friendly Activities
To deepen the connection with the Yuzen Tower for families, Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo will host an original bamboo light-making workshop led by Kenji Mishiro, leader of the renowned bamboo light production group "CHIKAKEN." This engaging workshop invites participants of all ages to create their own bamboo lights, allowing an experience of the unique fragrance and feeling of bamboo.
Using electric tools and diverse templates, families can express their creativity while learning about sustainable practices in an engaging manner. This activity is ideal for summer vacation projects and family bonding.
In addition, a special exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Yuzen Tower will take place. Visitors can view a replica of the important cultural asset, "Kamikabuto Chikurin-ji Engagement Picture Scroll," alongside the display showcasing the architecture's unique features and the beauty of its original location, the Takamiyama Chikurin Temple.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, a special stay plan will be available, including a set of Japanese sake from Kamo-tsuru Brewery in Higashihiroshima, along with an original sake cup that changes color when filled with cold beverages—a perfect keepsake commemorating the 100th anniversary. Families are invited to create memorable moments alongside the Yuzen Tower.
