Okayama University Launches Alumni Association in Sulawesi
On July 9, 2025, Okayama University successfully inaugurated the Sulawesi branch of its International Alumni Association at Hasanuddin University in Indonesia. This new chapter marked the 56th branch for the institution, with Ilfan Sugianto, Dean of the Dentistry Faculty at Hasanuddin University, appointed as the branch head. Present at the ceremony were Okayama University’s President, Tohru Nasu, and Vice President, Takayoshi Suzuki, who oversee international and alumni affairs respectively.
The opening was celebrated by approximately 30 attendees, including former international students of Okayama University and participants of the ODAPUS program— a short-term study abroad initiative from the university’s dental school. The event highlighted not just the formal establishment of the branch but also the enduring relationships formed between alumni and the university.
During the congratulatory address, Rudy Jamaldin from the Indonesian Alumni Association (PERSADA) expressed excitement and optimism for future collaborations and exchanges among alumni. Moreover, Sharifudin, who studied at Okayama University 40 years ago, reminisced about his experiences through a slideshow, sparking nostalgic feelings among the attendees who reflected on their time in Japan.
President Nasu used the opportunity to express gratitude towards all individuals who contributed to fostering student and research exchanges, showcasing a commitment to continue and enhance these relationships. Likewise, Vice President Suzuki introduced the current status of Okayama University through accompanying images, drawing in participants with memories associated with their own study abroad experiences.
Okayama University aims to further deepen bonds with its alumni and leverage its established network to recruit outstanding international students, facilitate exchange programs, and promote exchanges between faculty members.
