AltaPointe Health Enhances Mental Health Care Access Across Alabama

Expanding Mental Health Care Access in Alabama

In a significant move aimed at improving mental health care accessibility, AltaPointe Health has announced that it is intensifying its efforts to provide high-quality mental health services across Alabama. The organization is committed to ensuring that a larger number of individuals and families can receive the essential support they need.

A Robust System of Support

Recent statistics from AltaPointe indicate a remarkable increase in service provision, with numbers jumping from 1.4 million in 2023 to over 1.9 million in fiscal year 2025. This surge not only demonstrates a growing demand for mental health support but also highlights the organization's capacity to broaden access to care.

The Access to Care team at AltaPointe plays a pivotal role in this expansion. In 2025 alone, they fielded over 66,000 calls during business hours and handled more than 6,000 after-hours crisis calls. Their effectiveness in connecting people with necessary services is crucial, especially given the rising number of individuals seeking assistance. Additionally, over 8,000 calls were answered through the 988 Lifeline Center, which emphasizes AltaPointe's capacity as a vital resource for those in crisis throughout the region.

Comprehensive Care Network

AltaPointe Health's expansive system encompasses an impressive network of 22 Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs), eight Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), two psychiatric hospitals, and a plethora of more than 100 programs scattered across seven counties. This extensive reach allows the health system to offer coordinated care that integrates both behavioral and primary healthcare services. This holistic approach aims to meet patients at their specific needs, providing care where they are, both physically and emotionally.

The Growing Importance of Mental Health

Tuerk Schlesinger, CEO of AltaPointe Health, underscores the critical nature of mental health care within the overall health framework of communities. "Mental health care is vital to the overall health and strength of our communities. As awareness continues to grow, more individuals are reaching out for support," he states.

He goes on to highlight the organization's mission of delivering compassionate, patient-centered care. Their focus remains on empowering individuals on their journey toward both mental and physical wellness by breaking down barriers to access, ensuring that assistance is readily available when needed.

Call for Accessibility

AltaPointe Health advocates for anyone in need of mental health services to reach out without hesitation. Support is available through their main line at (251) 450-2211, and crisis assistance is accessible 24/7 via the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
