Celebrating Four Years of NTQ Consulting Japan
NTQ Consulting Japan (NCJ), based in Tokyo, recently marked its fourth anniversary on May 29th, 2023, with a special event held at their Hibiya office. The gathering brought together members of the NTQ Japan team to celebrate significant milestones, reflect on past achievements, and discuss future directions. During the event, NCJ's President Akira Ishikawa presented the company's mid-term management plan, emphasizing the commitment to further growth and value creation.
The anniversary celebration fostered a warm atmosphere where attendees engaged in a fun bingo game, which included participants joining online. This sense of community signifies the strong team spirit that NCJ has cultivated since its inception.
Contribution to Digital Transformation
Since its establishment, NCJ has played a crucial role in supporting Japanese companies in their digital transformation (DX) efforts and system development. Over recent years, the firm has expanded its service offerings beyond traditional offshore development support to encompass a full-service approach, including requirements definition, design, development, quality assurance, and project management. This approach has enabled NCJ to tackle large-scale system developments and legacy migration projects with greater efficacy.
As part of the 4th-anniversary celebrations, NCJ took the opportunity to share its journey of growth and its vision for the future. The company has gradually evolved from being a provider of offshore development resources to offering a comprehensive suite of services that address clients' specific challenges. This transition highlights NCJ’s ongoing commitment to being a valuable partner rather than just a service provider.
Notable Project Achievements
One of the standout projects that showcase NCJ’s evolution is the development of a vessel operation management system that supports maritime safety. This system visualizes the operational status of ships entering ports in real-time, utilizing AIS (Automatic Identification System) technology to display vessel information on maps. NCJ undertook this project from the requirements definition phase through to acceptance testing and project management, successfully completing the project valued at approximately 60 million yen.
Additionally, NCJ is currently managing a significant migration project that involves updating a legacy COBOL system to C#. This project marks the first substantial use of generative AI within NCJ, covering all stages from requirements definition to testing. Currently valued at around 140 million yen, this project exemplifies NCJ’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge technologies into its service offerings.
Mid-Term Management Strategy: Japan Quality × GenAI Speed
Addressing the challenges that Japanese businesses are expected to face by 2025, NCJ's mid-term management plan (2025-2030) is themed
“Japan Quality × GenAI Speed.” This strategy aims to merge the high-quality project management associated with Japanese standards with the efficiencies provided by generative AI, alongside the capabilities of NCJ’s offshore development centers. The goal is to lead clients successfully through their legacy transformations.
NCJ is set to advance beyond being merely a development company by positioning itself as a professional organization that specializes in quality management and project control. The key benefits of this approach include:
- - Reduction of project failure risks
- - Mitigation of delays in project delivery
- - Prevention of quality issues
- - Value-based service offerings
- - Increased productivity through hybrid models
- - Utilization of proprietary generative AI tools
- - Experienced Japanese PMs
- - Strong offshore development centers
With this combination, NCJ aims to reduce dependence on individual talents or resources, achieving high-quality and rapid legacy transformations.
Commitment to Project Quality Assurance
Central to NCJ's strategy are independent organizations for project management (PMO) and quality assurance (QA). These structures will ensure that NCJ adheres to the high-quality standards expected by Japanese clients, offering specialized oversight and control.
Looking Ahead
As NCJ celebrates its 4th anniversary, it is poised to continue positioning itself as the go-to partner for legacy migrations and digital transformation initiatives. With a dual focus on development capabilities and project management strengths, NCJ aims to play an instrumental role in fostering its clients' business growth.
