The Launch of the AI Creative Future Awards 2026: A New Creative Era
The AI Creative Future Awards (AICA) 2026, presented by the Japan-based organization AICA, is set to embark on an exciting journey to explore creativity in the age of artificial intelligence. Beginning on June 17, 2026, AICA will open the first round of entries for innovative projects that embrace AI technology across various fields.
Previously, the 2025 edition of AICA delved into global AI-driven creative case studies, igniting discussions centered on the essence of creativity in the AI era. This year, AICA 2026 will broaden its horizons by introducing public submissions, allowing both self-nominations and third-party recommendations for the first time.
AICA distinguishes itself by not being a traditional awards program focused solely on public entries. Instead, dedicated researchers will continuously curate AI creative examples from around the world, alongside public submissions, bringing together a wealth of diverse perspectives for in-depth discussions. The aim is to explore the essence of creativity that symbolizes the AI age.
A central feature of AICA is its unique "dialogue-oriented" judging process. A diverse panel of experts spanning fields such as advertising, art, music, film, gaming, and research will engage in thoughtful deliberations. They will scrutinize how AI has been utilized and whether such practices have propelled creativity forward. Notably, AICA values the discourse around the selection process as much as the results. Different experts will embark on multi-faceted discussions about a singular work, recognizing this as a critical asset for understanding creativity in the AI landscape.
Call for Entries
- - Start of Submission: June 17, 2026
- - Submission Methods: Self-nominations and third-party recommendations
- - Eligible Projects: Any creative project leveraging AI, including but not limited to advertising, art, music, film, games, products, and research projects.
- - Official Website: AICA Official Site
Selection Process
The AICA will first rely on dedicated researchers to explore and collect AI creative examples globally. This year's public call for entries will augment these research efforts, aiming for an interaction of diverse creative expressions. Both research-discovered examples and public submissions will be debated equally, with panel members considering the nuances of context and background.
AICA aims not just to determine a hierarchy among entries but to serve as a platform for discovering innovative practices in creativity and contemplating their implications.
In its evaluations, AICA emphasizes more than just technical novelty. Last year’s discussions highlighted critical points such as:
- - How AI and humans co-create
- - Generation of new expressions and experiences
- - Challenging societal and cultural norms
- - Advancing creativity in the AI era
This year, AICA plans to build upon these foundations and introduce new debate topics for continued evolution.
Panel Members
- - Chair: Kanta Shimizu (Technical Director at BASSDRUM)
- - Judges:
- Toshito Ogata (Design Engineer / Project Director at Takram)
- Naoki Tokui (Artist / AI Researcher)
- Asako Tomura (Producer at Art, Science and Society / Visiting Researcher at the University of Tokyo)
- Yoichiro Miyake (Professor at Rikkyo University Graduate School of Science and Technology)
- Aki Inomata (Artist / Visiting Professor at Musashino Art University)
Maintaining the same structure as last year, AICA continues to prioritize the discussion of "why a particular project was chosen" alongside the results. The landscape of AI-generated creativity lacks singular answers. Therefore, diverse experts aim to elucidate the relationship between AI and creativity, showcasing its current standing in society through rigorous dialogue.
Comments from Chair Kanta Shimizu
“This year’s AICA is particularly exciting due to the inclusion of public submissions. I’m looking forward to what promises to be a vibrant space at AICA, bringing together some of the most fascinating realms of contemporary creativity. I encourage everyone to showcase their work there.”
