Boosting Effective Communication with AI-Powered 1on1 Service by DX Lab

Enhancing Workplace Communication Through AI

The logistics industry is notorious for its communication challenges, and recognizing this, the DX Laboratory has introduced an innovative AI-powered 1on1 service called CrewCompass. Based in Tokyo and part of the Daisei Group, this service aims to facilitate and enhance communication between frontline employees and management, addressing significant hurdles that often exist in workplaces where time and resources are limited.

The Need for Improvement

Traditional face-to-face 1on1 meetings serve as crucial opportunities for employees and managers to deepen mutual understanding. However, in the logistics sector, logistical issues can render these face-to-face sessions inefficient. Managers often oversee numerous employees, making it difficult to engage in meaningful conversations with each individual. A recent survey conducted within the group revealed that less than 20% of managers felt they could conduct adequate face-to-face 1on1 sessions.

To tackle these challenges, CrewCompass has been developed as a supplementary tool that enhances the value of these 1on1 meetings. Rather than replacing in-person interactions, it captures employee feedback consistently and turns it into dialogue that facilitates more meaningful in-person conversations.

Implementation and Results

Since July 2025, CrewCompass has been gradually implemented across four companies within the Daisei Group, encompassing around 3,000 frontline employees. Participants engage with the service monthly, responding to pre-determined questions using their smartphones. Sessions typically last between 5 and 15 minutes, allowing for flexibility in employee schedules.

The preliminary results have been promising:
  • - The turnover rate for participating companies has decreased by 4% compared to the previous year.
  • - Over 80% of managers reported improved awareness of their subordinates' situations.
  • - An equal percentage confirmed that the service prompted them to conduct more face-to-face 1on1s.
  • - Cases of early detection of harassment have also been documented, showcasing a proactive approach to workplace issues.

Service Overview

CrewCompass combines AI-driven 1on1 sessions with organizational analysis to provide comprehensive support for management actions. Employees conduct their sessions with animated AI characters, and the interactions are automatically summarized. Importantly, employees retain control over what information is shared with their managers, allowing them to determine the level of detail communicated.

Furthermore, the service organizes dialogue content by location and department, generating reports that help managers track employee conditions. While it serves as a tool for preparing for in-person 1on1 meetings, it also provides insights for continual improvement in the workplace.

Key Features
