TEAM JAPAN Announces Candidate Players for the 20th Asian Games eSports Competition
In September this year, the 20th Asian Games will take place in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, marking the return of the event to Japan after 32 years. The eSports competitions will feature as official medal events, and the selection process for TEAM JAPAN candidates has been underway. The selection of players concluded recently, and yukakina from the Arneb with WoG (AWG) eSports team made an appearance at the candidate announcement event held on March 22.
A total of 20 candidates have been selected across six games for Team Japan. The final selection coincided with a competitive event held at the Aichi Sky Expo, which served as the venue for the Asian Games. Among the team members, yukakina and AKa from REJECT will represent the Hunter category in the game Identity V: Asian Games Version. The survivors include City and Katsuki from FENNEL and Soba, maeken, and Unpyi from REJECT. Toki, a coach from AXIZ WAVE, will be leading the team.
The Japan eSports Union (JESU) is responsible for overseeing the selection of candidates for the nine titles across seven disciplines. So far, along with the Identity V title, 'Pokémon Unite' has been confirmed, resulting in a total of 20 candidates across six competitions and eight titles. As for the remaining category, 'PUBG Mobile Asian Games Version,' the criteria for selection are currently being developed, with further announcements to follow.
Yukakina, representing Arneb with WoG, expressed her excitement for the upcoming competition, stating, "Despite feeling nervous about performing on such a grand stage, I’m incredibly thrilled to compete in this environment. I’ll take a deep breath and focus my mind to showcase everything I've built up until now!" Her dedication and enthusiasm convey the spirit of Team Japan.
About Arneb with WoG
Arneb is an eSports team managed by LeGAME, a company founded in 2009 with a capital of 50 million yen, headed by CEO Yudai Muka. The team was established on January 17, 2022, and the name 'Arneb' is derived from a star in the constellation Lepus, also symbolizing the team’s mascot, a rabbit named Arurabi.
Some of the past achievements of Arneb include ranking 3rd in the world in Clash Royale, consecutive participation in the COA World Championship for Identity V, finishing as the runner-up in the 2024 autumn tournament, and advancing to the semifinal of the ALGS America Championship in 2025 for APEX Legends.
Notably, the Identity V branch of the team has adopted the new designation 'Arneb with WoG' after the amateur team World of General joined forces with them, creating a stronger foundation as they head into the Asian Games. This collaboration highlights the competitive nature and camaraderie of the eSports community in Japan as they prepare to showcase their talents on an international stage.
