A New Era in Equestrian Arts: The Opening of ADREA
On October 31, 2025, a significant event unfolded in the world of equestrian arts: the Abu Dhabi Royal Equestrian Arts (ADREA) school opened its doors to the public. Located on the serene Jubail Island, this school not only represents a pinnacle for the UAE but is also the fifth classical riding school of its kind globally and the first established outside Europe. This landmark institution invites both equestrian enthusiasts and the general public to embark on an inspiring journey into the rich tradition of classical riding.
Historic Inauguration Night
The grand opening ceremony held the previous night greeted distinguished guests, dignitaries, and members of the equestrian community. They were treated to a remarkable showcase that paid homage to the historical craftsmanship and the deep bond between horse and rider. This celebration epitomized the cultural significance of harnessing equestrian artistry in a regional context, connecting the community to the historical practices of Furusiyya—an ancient equestrian tradition emphasizing skill, discipline, and harmony.
A Cultural Milestone for Abu Dhabi
ADREA's opening marks a cultural milestone for Abu Dhabi, transforming it into a world-class destination where the elegance of horse riding and artistry intertwine. The venue hosts weekly live performances that incorporate equestrian mastery with musical elements and choreography, thus bringing to life the essence of Furusiyya. For the first time, the integration of five classical riding schools—from Austria, Spain, Portugal, France, and now the UAE—could be witnessed at a single location, creating an extraordinary platform for cultural exchange.
The Spanish Riding School introduced its famous Lipizzaner stallions in a breathtaking performance known as the Ballet of the White Horses. The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art displayed the dynamic grace of Andalusian dancing horses, while the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art revealed the precision and elegance of the Lusitano horse. Furthermore, the Cadre Noir of Saumur presented its unique style of high school riding, culminating in a vibrant spectrum of equestrian performances. ADREA also showcased its own riders, celebrating the first permanent establishment in the UAE dedicated to classical riding while merging Emirati heritage with timeless European traditions.
Facilities and Unique Offerings
Nestled amidst the lush mangroves of Jubail Island, ADREA spans 18,000 square meters within a sprawling sanctuary of 65,000 square meters, providing exceptional equestrian and cultural experiences. Housing more than 40 of the world’s finest pure Spanish horses, ADREA is committed to preserving equestrian knowledge. It boasts the first equestrian library of its kind in the region — one of the largest globally—housing thousands of rare texts and historically significant collections.
Guests can also explore the first bespoke saddle-making workshop in the UAE, reviving historic craftsmanship through a blend of artistry and tradition. Moreover, the Furusiyya Gallery exhibits 173 unique artifacts, which collectively represent over 2,000 years of the evolution of equestrian practices across various civilizations.
Now officially opened, the Abu Dhabi Royal Equestrian Arts invites audiences to immerse themselves in a world where tradition meets performing arts, featuring equestrian shows, educational programs, and exhibitions that celebrate the horse as a timeless symbol of grace, culture, and pride. Guided by the values of equine well-being and the enduring principles of the Furusiyya tradition, ADREA's inauguration enhances the rich equestrian legacy of the Arab world while positioning Abu Dhabi as a global center for culture, art, and excellence.
