Epic Games Store Year in Review 2025

Epic Games (based in the USA, led by CEO Tim Sweeney) has unveiled its comprehensive review of the Epic Games Store for 2025. This recap not only reflects on the past year but also teases exciting new features and releases slated for 2026. Notably, the company plans to launch the Epic Games Store for iOS users in Japan by March.

Record Player Spending on Third-Party Titles

In an impressive display of growth, player expenditure on third-party titles within the Epic Games Store reached an all-time high of $400 million in 2025. This marks a 57% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, the total gameplay hours for third-party games surged to 2.78 billion hours, a 4% increase from 2024.

Monthly Active User Milestone

December 2025 saw the Epic Games Store achieve a record-breaking 78 million monthly active users. This consistent growth in the community signifies the platform's increasing popularity, with total users exceeding 317 million. Epic's cross-platform accounts rose significantly from 898 million in 2024 to 972 million in 2025.

Last year, the free games program played a pivotal role in facilitating players' discovery of new favorite titles, offering 100 titles to users. Players collectively claimed 662 million free games, which amounts to a total value of $2,316 per person. Over 77% of the free titles offered on the Epic Games Store reached their highest concurrent player counts and saw a 40% average increase on Steam as well.

Expansion and New Features

Epic not only focused on extending support to PC, Mac, iOS, and Android but also rolled out essential new tools and features for both players and developers. This includes a major overhaul of the revenue-sharing model, allowing developers to retain 100% of revenues up to $1 million per product annually, as well as features such as a download manager, gifting options, integrated text chat across the Epic Games App ecosystem, and the implementation of two-factor authentication.

The Epic Games Store remains committed to fulfilling long-awaited feature requests and enhancing the platform more deeply. Currently, a revamp of the launcher’s architecture is underway, aiming to boost performance and stability while facilitating the introduction of new features. Players can expect community enhancements such as new social features, voice chat, game-independent party functionalities, and player profiles.

Additionally, leveraging Fortnite's marketing strength, Epic plans to introduce a new program aimed at supporting developers in boosting their game sales.
