FūūBi: A Sustainable Future in Interior Design
The anticipation for JAPANTEX 2025, one of Japan's largest international interior exhibitions, is in high gear. Set against the backdrop of Tokyo Big Sight from November 19 to 21, the event showcases innovative concepts in interior design. Notably, the exhibition will feature the interior design brand
FūūBi, a project by Maeda Giken Co., Ltd., led by CEO
Tatsuhiko Maeda.
A Theme of Sustainability
FūūBi's exhibition theme,
“Creating Spaces in Harmony with Nature”, emphasizes the brand's commitment to sustainability. The products on display have been conceptualized and developed to represent an eco-friendly integration of nature into our living spaces. Attendees will have the chance to learn about how FūūBi's designs embody this philosophy, evident in both materials and manufacturing processes.
What is FūūBi?
FūūBi, established in October 2023, derives its name from the Japanese character for nurturing (孚) and beauty (美), symbolizing the brand's mission to cultivate beauty in the home. Their tagline,
“Layering Thoughts for a Comfortable Future”, encapsulates their vision of creating serene and beautiful living environments.
Products on Display
At JAPANTEX 2025, FūūBi will exhibit a variety of items:
- - Root Table (center)
- - MUTSU Stool (left)
- - MOTH Stool (right)
- - POT1–7 Planters (middle shelf)
- - Couleur L, S Storage Containers (bottom shelf)
These designs are innovative not just for their aesthetics but for their commitment to eco-friendly materials and construction methods.
Eco-Friendly Manufacturing Processes
FūūBi prides itself on using environmentally friendly 3D printing technologies in its product creation. This method of layered construction minimizes waste by avoiding cutting, which can produce excess material. Once a product reaches the end of its life cycle, it can be turned back into raw material, eliminating the need for disposal. This commitment extends to their choice of materials as well.
Sustainable Material Innovation
FūūBi's products utilize various sustainable materials such as:
- - TABWD®: This is a composite material made from thinning cedar trees sourced from Toyota Body, combined with plastic.
- - Acetate: A biodegradable material that can decompose in soil and marine environments thanks to microbial action.
- - Ocean Bound Plastic: These pellets are made from plastics disposed of within 50 kilometers inland from the coast, effectively repurposing materials from our oceans.
FūūBi not only promotes beautiful interior design but also champions environmental stewardship. Through conscious material selection and responsible manufacturing, they set a new standard for the interior design industry.
