Benvenuto Brunello: Celebrating Italy's Wine Legacy in NYC

Benvenuto Brunello Returns to New York City

In a much-anticipated event, the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino is excited to announce the remarkable return of Benvenuto Brunello to the United States. This notable wine tasting event will take place on February 4th at GH on the Park, situated in the vibrant heart of Manhattan. This year’s event promises an exclusive sneak peek of celebrated vintages: Brunello di Montalcino 2020, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2019, and Rosso di Montalcino 2023.

Following the success of its recent Italian version, Benvenuto Brunello invites American wine professionals and media to honor the rich heritage and masterful craftsmanship hailing from one of Italy’s prestigious wine regions. The event will feature educational seminars led by the esteemed Gabriele Gorelli, Italy’s first Master of Wine, providing selected attendees with an insightful exploration into Montalcino’s distinctive terroir, climate, and the captivating profiles of these newly released wines.

The seminar will be complemented by a walk-around tasting, where participants can engage with 35 respected Brunello producers. This unique opportunity allows attendees to converse directly with winemakers, gaining firsthand insight into the impressive quality and artistry behind Brunello di Montalcino.

Wineries participating in this illustrious event include renowned names such as Argiano, Banfi, and Frescobaldi among many others. Fabrizio Bindocci, President of the Consortium, expressed his enthusiasm for returning to New York, emphasizing the enthusiasm that the American market displays towards their wines. "Benvenuto Brunello offers us a perfect platform to showcase the unmatched biodiversity and quality that characterize Brunello di Montalcino as a true exemplar of Italian excellence," he noted.

The prestige of Brunello di Montalcino continues to rise, with a 5% increase in volume and a 1% uptick in value reported during the first nine months of 2024. This remarkable success persists despite various global challenges affecting the still red wine market. Brunello, crafted exclusively from Sangiovese grapes—locally known as Brunello—is celebrated for its bold fruit characteristics, lively acidity, and extraordinary aging potential. Aged for a minimum of five years, with Riserva requiring six, these wines are celebrated for their unparalleled complexity and depth.

Benvenuto Brunello transcends being merely a tasting event; it embodies a celebration of heritage, artistry, and the perpetual excellence of Brunello di Montalcino. Hosted by the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino, which has been safeguarding the integrity and quality of Brunello since its inception in 1967, this event reinforces the commitment to promoting the historical and cultural heritage of Montalcino wines.

The consortium consists of around 200 members—including producers and bottlers—working diligently to preserve the unique characteristics of Brunello. Through responsible resource management and eco-friendly practices, they aim to elevate the global standing of Brunello di Montalcino, shining a light on its quality, history, and cultural significance.

As Benvenuto Brunello approaches, wine lovers and professionals get ready to indulge in unparalleled tastings and celebrate the exceptional legacy of Italian wines from Montalcino. Mark your calendars for February 4th, and partake in this exquisite celebration of Italian viticulture and artistry!
