One of the flagship projects under PowerChina’s umbrella is the 1,100 MW Suez Gulf Wind Power Project in Egypt. This substantial undertaking is set to position Egypt as a leader in clean energy within Africa, aiming for 42% of its energy to derive from clean sources by the year 2030. Serving as Africa's second-largest onshore wind farm and PowerChina's largest overseas project, the Suez Gulf site provides comprehensive services encompassing everything from the design phase to the ultimate commissioning of the facilities. Once operational, the wind farm is projected to generate over 4.3 billion kilowatt-hours annually. This is enough to power approximately one million households while also contributing to a notable reduction in carbon emissions—roughly 2.2 million tons each year!

To adapt to the challenging desert environment, PowerChina has engineered the wind turbines with specialized sand-resistant coatings and high-temperature components, ensuring not only efficiency but also reliability and longevity for the local communities benefiting from this project.

Clean Water for All: The Beni Nadji Raw Water Pretreatment Project

In a different but equally impactful initiative, PowerChina has tackled water scarcity in Mauritania through the Beni Nadji Raw Water Pretreatment Project. Residents of Nouakchott, the capital city, have long struggled with unreliable access to clean water, especially during the rainy season when river water became too turbid for the local treatment plants to manage efficiently. This project, completed in a record seven months, has radically transformed the water supply situation. With a daily treatment capacity of 255,000 cubic meters, it now ensures a consistent supply of drinking water to the residents, achieving a 90% reliability rate. This has drastically reduced the risk of waterborne diseases in the community.

In creating local jobs—around 80—and imparting crucial water treatment technologies to the community, PowerChina illustrates its commitment to fostering local development. The alignment with the integrated public-private partnership model (IPP) for the Suez Gulf project is another example of how PowerChina is paving the way for collaborative efforts that integrate international and local enterprises.
