Kato Works, headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, has announced the release of its latest product, the SL-250RV, a 25-ton rough terrain crane designed to meet the evolving demands of urban redevelopment and aging equipment updates across Japan.

Development Background

With increasing construction activity in densely populated areas, the labor-intensive nature of rough terrain cranes has pushed demand for improvements in operational efficiency, energy-saving features, and heightened safety standards. Drawing on the extensive technical expertise and practical field experience acquired through years of developing various models, Kato Works has created the new "RV Series" to cater to these emerging market needs. The SL-250RV marks the first model in this revolutionary series, featuring a hydraulic telescopic jib designed to shorten work cycles, significantly enhance safety, and improve operator comfort and usability.

1. Enhanced Crane Performance and Usability
- Hydraulic Telescopic Jib: The new two-stage SL jib allows for lengths ranging from 8.8 to 13.2 meters, making it easier to engage in activities requiring variable jib lengths. Operators can adjust the jib extension on-the-fly, improving setup efficiency.
- Electric Controls: The SL-250RV features electric control levers, a first in Kato Works' domestic cranes, allowing operators to set crane operation speeds to their preference, further enhancing the comfort and feel of operation.
- Auto-Acceleration Mode: This innovative mechanism allows the engine's RPM to automatically adapt based on the operation of levers or pedals, thus eliminating traditional accelerator pedal use, decreasing operator fatigue, and improving fuel efficiency.
- Remote Setup Control: The new E-Radio remote provides three different modes for setup: jib setting, aluminum mat installation, and outrigger operation. This allows for precise two-handed control, mimicking the feel of in-cabin operations.
- Touchscreen Display: A new 12.1-inch integrated touch panel monitor provides comprehensive visibility of crane operation data, including safety images and settings, allowing for intuitive operation and increased control.
