Galaxy Digital Welcomes Matt Friedrich as Chief Legal Officer

In a strategic move aimed at reinforcing its leadership team amidst the evolving landscape of digital assets, Galaxy Digital Inc. has announced the appointment of Matt Friedrich as its new Chief Legal Officer, effective September 8. Friedrich's extensive experience in legal and compliance will be vital for the company as it navigates regulatory complexities on a global scale.

A Seasoned Legal Leader

Friedrich's career is marked by significant positions within some of the world's leading corporations. Prior to joining Galaxy, he held the role of Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Cognizant Technology Solutions, driving compliance and government affairs. His tenure there was characterized by overseeing global legal initiatives that reinforced the company’s standing in the technology sector. Additionally, his experience at Chevron as Chief Corporate Counsel provided him with a robust foundation in corporate governance and litigation.

Friedrich also brings a wealth of experience from reputable law firms such as Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Boies, Schiller & Flexner. His work there involved representing multinational enterprises in litigations and compliance cases, underscoring his capability in handling intricate legal matters that span across borders. Moreover, his background as a federal prosecutor culminated in serving as the Acting Assistant Attorney General of the Criminal Division at the U.S. Department of Justice, showcasing his adeptness in navigating legal frameworks.

A Vision for the Future

According to Galaxy's CEO and Founder, Mike Novogratz, Friedrich's addition to the leadership team is pivotal as the company aims to scale its operations and spearhead innovation. Novogratz emphasizes that Friedrich’s public and private sector experience will play a crucial role in expanding Galaxy's influence within the digital asset space. “With laws and regulations shifting around the world, his expertise will be key to shaping the next chapter of digital assets and AI,” said Novogratz.

In his acceptance of the position, Friedrich expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to contribute to Galaxy Digital. He remarked on the transformative potential of digital assets and AI in the financial services industry and mentioned his eagerness to leverage his experiences with multinational companies to help drive growth for Galaxy as a leading investor and advisor.

Transition of Leadership

Friedrich will succeed Andrew Siegel, who has been serving as Galaxy's General Counsel since 2017. Under Siegel's leadership, the legal and compliance team evolved significantly, adeptly managing a shifting regulatory landscape and playing a key role in Galaxy's successful listing on Nasdaq. Novogratz expressed gratitude for Siegel's commitment and contributions, noting the foundational work he has done for the company.

As Galaxy Digital continues to position itself as a global leader in digital assets and data center infrastructure, the appointment of Friedrich is a strategic maneuver to enhance its legal framework. The company not only offers institutional access to trading and advisory services but is also pushing the boundaries with technologies that support high-performance computing and AI, responding to growing market demands.
