Huntington Bank Strengthens Community Ties with New Leadership Announcements in Colorado

In a strategic move to enhance community engagement, The Huntington National Bank has announced the appointment of Joe Nimmons as the director of its newly formed community lending group. This group is designed to bolster Huntington's ongoing commitment to community development and non-tax credit lending initiatives across the bank's extensive footprint. Alongside this, Brian Kelso has been appointed as the new regional president for Colorado, where he will play a pivotal role in leading market teams and building robust business and community relationships.

Building Stronger Communities

Joe Nimmons’ appointment reflects a proactive approach by Huntington to deepen its investments and engagement within local communities. In his own words, Nimmons expressed excitement about his role, emphasizing the importance of this new team in increasing the capacity of regional teams and community development efforts. By aligning lending strategies with a commitment to inclusive growth, Huntington Bank aims to positively influence the areas it serves.

Having joined Huntington in 2021 to spearhead the bank’s commercial presence in Colorado, Nimmons quickly ascended to the role of Colorado regional president in 2022. He was instrumental in strengthening the Huntington brand in the region and has been vital in expanding the bank's lending programs through local partnerships. Christian Corts, the regional banking director, highlighted Nimmons’ talent in connecting strategy with purpose, crucial for magnifying Huntington’s impact and ensuring its lending efforts empower the communities involved.

A Visionary Leader in Colorado

Taking over from Nimmons, Brian Kelso brings over two decades of commercial banking experience to his new role. He recently held the position of leading Community Banking for Veritex Holdings, Inc., which recently merged with Huntington. Prior to this, Kelso devoted more than twenty years to Wells Fargo, where he served as the market executive for the Colorado region. His extensive background includes multiple key roles that finely tuned his leadership skills and deepened his understanding of regional banking needs.

As a graduate of the University of Idaho, Kelso is well-equipped to navigate the dynamic Colorado market. His enthusiasm for joining Huntington amidst this transformative period is evident, and he is keen on solidifying Huntington’s unique regional banking model while prioritizing relationships with businesses and communities throughout the state. Corts praised both Nimmons and Kelso for their exceptional leadership qualities, which resonate with Huntington’s values and future vision.

Huntington Bank is currently operating 37 branches within Colorado and employs approximately 370 colleagues in the region.
