Experience the Splendor of One Million Sunflowers
This summer, Kurihama Flower Park in Yokosuka, Kanagawa, is blooming like never before with its first large-scale sunflower field featuring around one million captivating sunflowers. The park is open to the public completely free of charge until August 3rd, allowing everyone to immerse in the beauty of these vibrant flowers.
A Historic First
The sunflower field, specially cultivated in the Poppy and Cosmos Garden, marks a historic first for the park. Previously, sunflowers were grown in smaller patches, but this year's initiative is part of a soil improvement project using a type of green manure. About one million sunflowers of the 'Pioneer' variety have been planted directly in the field to naturally enrich the soil. As the sunflowers bloom, their striking presence transforms the landscape into a breathtaking floral masterpiece.
Ideal Viewing Conditions
Standing between 80 to 150 cm tall, these sunflowers are perfectly positioned at eye level, making them ideal for visitors to admire and capture memorable photographs. The picturesque scenery, combined with the skillful arrangement of these sunflowers, provides a delightful backdrop for families and photographers alike.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy unique flower art displays in the park that includes a creative installation inspired by the Godzilla franchise. This display is complemented by another flowerbed inspired by Katsushika Hokusai’s famed
