Campaign to Eradicate Illegal Suitcase Dumping in Toshima District

Toshima District has taken a significant step towards improving the community's living environment by addressing the issue of illegal suitcase dumping. From July 15 to July 22, the district conducted a comprehensive purge of illegally dumped suitcases, successfully collecting a total of 12 suitcases from various locations, including garbage collection points, public roads, and parks. Apart from the immediate cleanup efforts, Toshima District has solidified partnerships with two suitcase reuse companies to further combat illegal dumping. On July 1, an agreement was reached to enhance collaborative efforts, encouraging the reuse of abandoned items.

The district has also distributed multilingual flyers to educate the public on the prohibition of illegal suitcase dumping. Large visual displays in the Ikebukuro area deliver the message that illegal dumping is not permissible, effectively reaching both residents and visitors. Additionally, blue patrol cars equipped with multilingual announcements are regularly deployed in the area to reinforce the importance of this issue.

Moreover, flyers have been dispersed to 15 suitcase retail establishments, approximately 2,300 lodging facilities, all 19 train stations within the district, and even popular venues like Animate Ikebukuro, urging them to partake in the campaign against illegal dumping.
