The event will take place at Fufumian, located at Baikatei Annex in Kagurazaka, a historically significant area that has ties to the Tokugawa shogunate. This 150-minute program is designed to engage all your senses while providing direct interaction with cultural experts.
Program Schedule
1. Cultural Walk (07:30-08:20)
Kick off your day with a guided walk through the picturesque, cobblestoned streets of Kagurazaka. This is not just a regular sightseeing tour; you'll explore the area through the lens of its rich samurai history and its urban development during the Edo period. One noteworthy stop is
Bishamonten Zenkokuji Temple, a site associated with Tokugawa Ieyasu himself.
2. Wagashi Workshop & Tea Ceremony (08:20-09:10)
After your cultural walk, the event continues at the intimate Fufumian venue, where expert chef Takeshi Inoue will guide you in the art of making
wagashi—traditional Japanese sweets. Inoue, a Tokyo Meister renowned for his craftsmanship, will ensure that your experience is unique as you create and savor seasonal sweets, accompanied by a tea ceremony featuring matcha in a traditional tea setting.
3. Kokyu Performance & Hands-on Experience (09:10-10:00)
Finally, witness the haunting beauty of the
kokyu, Japan’s traditional bowed string instrument, through a live performance by the acclaimed Daisuke Kiba. Kiba, known for his contributions to the
SHOGUN soundtrack, allows participants to experience the historical landscape of Edo through sound. Following the performance, you’ll have the opportunity to try playing the instrument yourself, providing an unforgettable connection to Japanese cultural heritage.
