AsymBio Breaks Ground on New R&D Facility in Shanghai



In a significant milestone for the biopharmaceutical industry, AsymBio, a subsidiary of the Asymchem Group, has officially started construction on a new research and development (R&D) facility located in Shanghai's Fengxian district. This project, commenced in May 2026, is poised to enhance AsymBio’s capabilities as a Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) focusing exclusively on biologics. The new eight-story building will occupy around 2,500 square meters and provide nearly 20,000 square meters of total floor space. It is expected to be fully completed and operational by the second half of 2027.

The Fengxian R&D building represents a crucial development in strengthening AsymBio’s position in the biopharmaceutical market by creating a full lifecycle, one-stop shop for biologics services. Located strategically adjacent to existing clinical and commercial manufacturing facilities for antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), the new structure is designed to support various essential processes including cell line development, upstream and downstream process development, conjugation process development, and drug product development, supplemented by a range of analytical development services.

One of the key features of this new facility will be its support of the Accelerated PCC (AccPCC) platform. This innovative R&D acceleration system is set to connect early-stage research and development (R&D) with clinical evaluation, effectively facilitating faster transitions from lead compounds to preclinical candidate selections. By utilizing a comprehensive, AI-enabled workflow, the AccPCC platform offers global biotech partners a full spectrum of technical assistance, encompassing lead optimization, developability assessments, and customized strategies for Clinical Manufacturing and Controls (CMC).
