Launch of ZERO PC S Series: A Socially Conscious Reuse Initiative

Overview of ZERO PC S Series

In a groundbreaking initiative, PeoplePort, a subsidiary of Borderless Japan, is set to launch the socially conscious "ZERO PC S Series" in collaboration with Sofmap at the Sofmap Ikebukuro store, beginning June 20, 2026, which coincides with the United Nations designated World Refugee Day. This launch aims to address pressing social issues such as the environmental impact of discarded digital devices and the employment opportunities for refugees living in Japan.

As technology advances, numerous computers are discarded, even though they remain usable. At the same time, refugees in Japan face challenges in finding work. In response to these societal concerns, PeoplePort and Sofmap have come together to promote a circular economy, reducing environmental harm while providing pathways for diverse individuals to thrive in society.

The decision to launch on World Refugee Day is intentional, aiming to raise awareness and support for those displaced worldwide, highlighting the importance of understanding and improving employment prospects for refugees.

Features of the ZERO PC S Series

The ZERO PC S Series comprises refurbished computers previously purchased by Sofmap. Staff members at PeoplePort, many of whom are refugees, will meticulously restore these devices following Sofmap's rigorous standards. By recycling computers that would otherwise end up in landfills, this initiative promotes resource circulation and aligns with Sofmap’s goals for social contribution through circular economy practices. This unique partnership also helps create new employment opportunities for refugees who are engaged in the refurbishment process.

Post-purchase, customers can expect extended support to ensure long-term satisfaction with their products. Sofmap offers a one-year repair and exchange warranty, alongside a complimentary three-month "Phone & Remote Support" service to alleviate any initial setup or operational concerns.

A Message from PeoplePort

Akihiro Aoyama, CEO of PeoplePort, expressed his enthusiasm for partnering with Sofmap, a leading player in Japan's reuse market. He stated, “Our goal with this collaboration extends beyond merely circulating second-hand computers; we aim to establish a sustainable choice within Japan's reuse market. By making the ZERO PC S Series available through Sofmap’s outlets, we hope to accelerate the realization of a circular society that is both environmentally friendly and considerate of people.” He envisions a future where everyone can choose refurbished computers that are produced with respect for the environment and humanity.
