Proximus Upgrades Telecommunications Network with Innovative Partners for Modern Signaling Solutions
Proximus Partners with BroadForward and Nomios for Network Modernization
In a significant move towards enhancing its telecommunications infrastructure, Proximus, the leading mobile network operator in Belgium, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with BroadForward and Nomios. This collaboration aims to replace the legacy Signaling Transfer Points (STPs) that have been a staple in digital communications with a more versatile, software-cloud-based solution. This strategic transition represents a crucial step forward in Proximus's ongoing efforts to modernize its network.
Legacy STPs, which are integral to SS7 routing, have reached the end of their functional lifecycle. Even with the diminishing usage of 3G networks, these systems remain vital for a variety of critical services such as roaming, messaging, Internet of Things (IoT) support, Voice over LTE (VoLTE) signaling, and emergency communication. According to industry forecasts, STPs are expected to retain their importance for at least another 20 years, emphasizing the need for an upgrade.
BroadForward's innovative software-based STP solution is designed to offer unparalleled flexibility and adaptability. It can be seamlessly deployed across various environments, including bare metal, virtual machines, containers, and cloud platforms. Besides supporting older signaling methods, this new system is built to evolve. It will integrate functionalities relevant to 4G and 5G networks, such as Diameter signaling control, signaling firewalls, and capabilities for 5G Service Communication Proxy (SCP) and Security Edge Protection Proxy (SEPP). This transformation will allow Proximus to streamline its operations while simultaneously reducing system complexity and costs associated with aging hardware.
Laurent Claus, who leads the Core Communication Solutions Division at Proximus, stated, "Innovation is a fundamental part of our strategy. By adopting BroadForward's advanced signaling solution, we are future-proofing our network infrastructure. This platform not only maintains continuity for our legacy services, but also positions us strategically for seamless integration of advanced capabilities relevant to 4G and 5G." He added that the partnership with Nomios plays a crucial role in ensuring successful implementation and integration of this cutting-edge technology.
Kris Verheye, Managing Director at Nomios, also emphasized the significance of this partnership, remarking, "This collaboration spotlights the importance of specialized integration services and advanced technology in fostering innovation. Proximus values our contributions and together, we are enhancing their operational capabilities to tackle current challenges and harness future opportunities."
Taco Schoute, the CEO of BroadForward, further remarked on the limitations presented by legacy STPs as they age. He noted, "Our software-based solution is not just more sustainable, but it’s also designed to adapt to the evolving demands of telecommunications operators. Proximus’s adoption of our platform underscores the rising need for modern signaling solutions tailored for the future."
The partnership between Proximus, BroadForward, and Nomios signifies a commitment to leveraging state-of-the-art technology to boost operational efficiencies, guarantee uninterrupted service, and stay competitive in a rapidly shifting telecommunications market.
