Huawei Introduces Innovative Power Solutions at Global Electric Power Summit 2026

Huawei's Global Electric Power Summit 2026

In a remarkable event held during HUAWEI CONNECT 2026, more than 600 leaders from the electricity sector gathered for the 2026 Global Electric Power Summit, themed "AI × Energy: Unlocking a New Power System." This summit brought together representatives from power companies, industry organizations, ecosystem partners, and key media figures to discuss how intelligent technologies can facilitate the global energy transition.

The summit was designed to unveil six extraordinary power showcases, which encapsulate the digital transformation journey of the global energy sector. These showcases highlight advancements from energy generation through to consumption, representing a significant shift from traditional electrical systems to a more integrated, intelligent framework.

The Clear Call for Change

Philippe Adam, Secretary-General of the International Council on Large Electric Systems, in his keynote speech, emphasized the monumental transformations shaping the energy landscape. He noted that the drive towards renewable energy, augmented with artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and comprehensive digitalization, is vital to overcoming contemporary challenges in the power industry. With around 700 million people lacking reliable electricity access, the role of AI becomes paramount in creating a sustainable and inclusive energy future.

Huawei's vision positions low-voltage systems as the focal point for future AI applications, addressing management inefficiencies at this crucial juncture of the energy distribution network. With AI set to bridge the operational gaps in low-voltage management, six key capabilities will be essential: observability, measurability, controllability, adjustability, tradability, and traceability.

David Sun, CEO of the Huawei Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit, remarked that achieving transparency in low-voltage operations is rooted in harnessing faster data, enhancing quality, and driving cost-efficiency. He laid out three priorities: fostering digital talent, establishing resilient digital infrastructures, and innovating a digital regulated asset base (RAB) to ensure a robust power ecosystem moving forward.

Showcases Illustrating Digital Transformation

The six power showcases presented include exemplary projects worldwide that underscore Huawei's commitment to innovation in the energy sector:

1. Brazil's CEMIG - A digital and intelligent grid showcasing efficient energy management.
2. Guangzhou Baiyun Power Supply Bureau - This demonstration zone highlights the synergy between distributed energy and microgrid solutions.
3. Shaoshan's Intelligent Distribution Network - Smart operations are demonstrated through advanced diagnostics and network optimizations.
4. Jiangxi's Intelligent Supply and Consumption - A model for efficient local energy management.
5. Zhejiang's ±800 kV UHV Digital Converter Station - This facility represents groundbreaking improvements in high-voltage energy transport.
6. Liaoning's Power Communication Network - Enhancing communication within the power ecosystem to maximize efficiency and reliability.

These showcases reveal significant advancements across various scenarios and represent milestone achievements within the energy sector as it transitions into an intelligent era.

Looking Ahead

Huawei is committed to leveraging its technological strengths in information and communications technology (ICT), working collaboratively with international power enterprises and other stakeholders within the ecosystem. By utilizing a comprehensive three-layer framework focused on metrics, architectures, and technologies, Huawei aims to catalyze innovation throughout the energy industry, fostering a prosperous and sustainable future.

The insights and innovations shared during this summit underscore Huawei's ambition to empower not just the energy sector but also the global community towards a more efficient and accessible energy future. As the industry advances, it will carry on the essential dialogue that drives and sustains change in this critical sector.
