Yamato Group Opens Comprehensive Business Solution Base in Koriyama City

Yamato Transport Co., Ltd. has announced the opening of the largest integrated business solution base in the Tohoku region, located in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture. This facility is part of their logistics facility complex known as "Fukushima Koriyama LL Town". The initial phase, named "Koriyama Logistics Center", is set to be completed by October 2025, and a subsequent facility that integrates nationwide sorting and distribution functions with logistics services will follow in October 2026. This base will aim to contribute to the business strategies of corporate clients by optimizing the entire supply chain and enhancing business opportunities.

Key Features of the New Base

1. Integrated Sorting and Logistics Functionality
The facility will feature a combination of sorting and distribution services with high-value-added logistics functions, including inventory management and distribution processing. This optimization will help ensure seamless solutions across the supply chain. Notably, there will be an extension on order receipt times for next-day deliveries, maximizing sales opportunities.
Immediate handling of logistics processing tasks, such as repairs, will also reduce lead times for deliveries. Moreover, by eliminating transportation and reloading tasks between storage and distribution points, the facility will improve shipping quality and contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The strategic placement of inventory sites within Yamato's express delivery network will facilitate rapid replenishment and movement of stocks based on demand, fostering inventory optimization.

2. Accessibility to Urban Areas
Situated at a strategic junction of the Tohoku Expressway and the Ban'etsu Expressway, Koriyama is a crucial transportation hub connecting the Tokyo metropolitan area and Tohoku. Alongside Sendai City, it represents a significant economic area with diverse manufacturing and retail sectors.
Clients with key operations in Western Japan can distribute their inventory to this base, facilitating next-day deliveries to the capital region, thus optimizing the supply chain and expanding market territories. Aggregating logistics from suppliers in Tohoku and within Koriyama itself at this facility will further enhance supply chain efficiency. The base is strategically positioned within a 300 km radius of major cities in the Kanto and Tohoku regions, making it an effective relay point for regional logistics and long-distance transport, particularly in response to regulatory challenges surrounding long-haul transport.

3. Disaster Resilience and Environmental Sustainability
The facility will employ solar energy systems and rechargeable batteries to power its operations using renewable energy. In times of emergency, backup power generators and a Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) system that allows electricity supply from EVs and FCVs can sustain operations for over 72 hours. Additionally, it will serve as a shelter for local residents and a delivery point for emergency relief supplies.

Facility Overview

The integrated facility called "Prologis Park Koriyama 1" will encompass an area of 68,221.51 square meters, with various temperature-controlled environments (ambient, refrigerated, and frozen). The base will be equipped with 113 loading bays, allowing for efficient logistics operations.

Strategic Vision

Aligned with its mid-term management plan "Sustainability Transformation 2030 - 1st Stage", Yamato Group aims to be a strategic partner collaborating with clients to address operational challenges while promoting sustainable supply chains. This new hub will enhance the group’s capabilities, providing new value to clients and the surrounding community, thereby contributing to the realization of a richer society.

Disaster Response Agreement

Yamato Transport has signed an agreement with Koriyama City, Prologis, NTT East Japan, and F&P Holdings to facilitate joint disaster response efforts. This partnership recognizes "Fukushima Koriyama LL Town" as a regional logistics and disaster prevention hub, establishing protocols for supporting evacuees and emergency transportation...
This initiative marks a significant step in developing collaborative disaster resilience strategies to safeguard communities effectively during emergencies.

In summary, the establishment of Yamato Group's integrated business solution base in Koriyama City not only represents a significant advance in logistics and transportation in the Tohoku region but also embodies the commitment to innovation, disaster preparedness, and sustainability that are critical in today’s operational landscape.
