Exploring the Challenge of Carbon Neutrality with Oxy-Fuel IGCC Technology

On January 20, the Japan Planning Institute (JPI) will host a significant seminar featuring Mr. Tetsuo Kikuchi, President and CEO of Ohtaki Cool Gen Corporation. This event will delve into the cutting-edge oxy-fuel Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) technology, highlighting its role in advancing toward a carbon-neutral society.

Overview of the Seminar
This seminar aims to inform participants about the impressive outcomes and future plans following the demonstration operations that have been ongoing since 2016. The oxy-fuel IGCC project spearheaded by Ohtaki Cool Gen is designed to optimize power generation efficiency through hydrogen-rich fuel gas derived from coal gasification while achieving remarkable load regulation capabilities.

Mr. Kikuchi will present how Ohtaki Cool Gen has been integrating carbon capture technology to significantly reduce carbon emissions. Attendees will learn about the achievements in establishing systems that enhance efficiency through the incorporation of fuel cells as well as initiatives undertaken to ensure carbon neutrality by successfully implementing biomass co-gasification.

Key Seminar Topics
1. Project Background
Understand the foundational elements and objectives driving the oxy-fuel IGCC project.
2. Oxy-Fuel Coal Gasification Technology
Insights into the innovative technology that powers this project.
3. Achievements and Outcomes of the Ohtaki Cool Gen Project
Review the significant milestones reached during phases one to three of the project.
4. Transformative CO₂ Separation and Recovery IGCC
