WPS Expands Digital Mental Health Services Through Mavida Health Acquisition
WPS Acquires Mavida Health to Broaden Mental Health Services
In an impactful move within the health industry, WPS, a renowned health solutions provider, officially announced its acquisition of Mavida Health, a digital mental health company dedicated to supporting women and families during significant life transitions, especially concerning reproductive health. The acquisition represents a pivotal step for WPS as it strives to enhance its digital healthcare capabilities and extend its reach into new markets.
Mavida Health, launched in 2023 by reproductive psychiatrist Dr. Sarah Oreck alongside health tech innovator Emma Sugerman, has positioned itself as a vital resource for women facing various transitional stages, such as PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome), PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder), pregnancy, postpartum challenges, and menopause. Through its platform, Mavida offers a combination of individual, group, and couples therapy, complemented by medication management services. With existing operations in states like California, New York, New Jersey, and Texas, Mavida has ambitious plans to expand its services further into additional regions across the country.
WPS’s President and CEO, Wendy Perkins, emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition, stating, "This acquisition reflects both our strategic vision for growth and our commitment to making a meaningful difference in people’s lives." By integrating Mavida's wealth of expertise in mental health, WPS aims to broaden its impact and enhance the quality of services available to their members.
Dr. Oreck, co-founder of Mavida, highlighted an often-ignored yet crucial aspect of women’s mental health, noting how hormonal transitions can significantly affect mental well-being. She stated, "Women face distinct neurobiological challenges at every stage of their reproductive lives. These serious, hormone-driven mental health conditions demand specialized care." By partnering with WPS, Mavida expects to increase its capacity to reach more women and families, especially those who have been dismissed in their struggles with mental health issues.
Mavida will continue to function independently under its own leadership structure. Rochelle Myers, who holds the position of Chief Growth Officer at WPS, is set to step into the role of President at Mavida Health. Myers stated, "Mavida Health is exactly the kind of mission-driven company we want to grow with. This acquisition is a meaningful part of WPS's strategy to expand into high-impact businesses — and Mavida is a natural fit for where we’re headed."
The acquisition aligns with WPS’s broader strategy of revenue diversification. The company is keenly focused on pursuing opportunities that complement its core health insurance business model. With Mavida, WPS believes it has found its first acquisition that complements its mission while paving the way for future strategic investments and acquisitions aimed at sustained long-term growth.
