The Second Edition of Manar Abu Dhabi Set to Dazzle with Art and Light
Manar Abu Dhabi Unveils Artist Line-Up for Its Second Edition
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) is excited to announce the second edition of Manar Abu Dhabi, a public light art exhibition scheduled from November 1, 2025 to January 4, 2026. This year’s exhibition will exhibit the innovative works of 15 Emirati and international artists across four stunning locations, including Jubail Island, Souq Al Mina, and Al Ain.
Embracing Diversity Through Art
Manar Abu Dhabi aims to celebrate the emirate’s diverse landscapes and encourage creativity by showcasing art that illuminates the beauty of the surroundings. The curated theme, The Light Compass, explores art as a medium for expression and connection, using light to bridge various cultural narratives.
Curated by Khai Hori, with co-curators Alia Zaal Lootah, Munira Al Sayegh, and Mariam Alshehhi, this year’s exhibition features 23 unique works, including site-specific light sculptures and immersive installations designed to engage visitors.
Venue Highlights
Jubail Island
The anchor location, Jubail Island, will host remarkable installations such as EDEN (2025) by Pamela Poh, an expansive outdoor structure covered in steel and illuminated glass that transforms at night. Another intriguing piece, UNFOLD (2025) by the studio DRIFT, symbolizes the fusion of technology and art by creating flowers through biometric data interactions. Visitors can also enjoy WHISPERS (2025), which showcases an enchanting interaction of lights responding to the breeze and movements around them.
Additionally, Emirati artist Shaikha Al Mazrou will unveil a massive circular land art installation called CONTINGENT OBJECT (2025), which will evolve as water crystallizes into beautiful salt formations over time.
Al Ain
In Al Ain, dedicated trails at Al Qattara and Al Jimi Oases will host various artistic endeavors, including TRANSLATION STREAM (2023) by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. This interactive piece presents poems from contemporary Emirati poets in a flowing stream of letters, while another work, PULSE CANOPY (2025), reacts to visitors' heartbeats, offering a unique experience that intertwines art with personal engagement.
Souq Al Mina
Set against the captivating skyline of Mina Zayed, renowned artist KAWS will present KAWSHOLIDAY Abu Dhabi, featuring his signature character COMPANION illuminated against the city’s backdrop. This collaboration promises to delight audiences of all ages and elevate the cultural narrative of Abu Dhabi.
A Celebration of Cultural Heritage
Apart from contemporary installations, the exhibition intends to honor traditional Emirati culture. Khalid Shafar will present SADU RED CARPET (2025), a contemporary take on the traditional weaving technique recognized by UNESCO. Along the Al Jimi Oasis Trail, artworks will invite visitors to reflect on the intertwining of culture and nature through unique light-based installations.
Looking Ahead
Manar Abu Dhabi not only broadens the horizon of artistic exploration but also fuels economic development by establishing Abu Dhabi as a global cultural hub. The diverse range of artists and their creations exemplify a collective vision aimed at deepening the understanding of art's role in cultural dialogue.
