Bluefield Energy Partners with KS Energy to Boost Renewable Energy in Kyushu

In a significant move towards transforming the renewable energy landscape in Japan's Kyushu region, Bluefield Energy has announced a business matching agreement with KS Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Higo Bank. This collaboration aims to optimize the usage of renewable energy resources and promote digital transformation within the local power sector.

Background of the Partnership

As Japan has been progressively adopting renewable energy solutions, there has been a notable surge in distributed energy resources, particularly solar power plants and battery storage systems. However, solar energy production is inherently variable, influenced by weather and time of day, which creates challenges in output control and effective energy utilization. This complexity is particularly evident in Kyushu, a region blessed with favorable sunlight conditions that has seen substantial growth in solar energy installations.

Recent forecasts predict that by the fiscal year 2026, the output control ratio for solar power in Kyushu could rise to approximately 7.3%. This scenario emphasizes the urgent need for effective energy management strategies that align with local demand and supply dynamics.

KS Energy aims to position Kyushu as a leading region for carbon neutrality and renewable energy circulation by enhancing the adoption of renewable technologies and battery usage. Meanwhile, Bluefield Energy is committed to its mission of "liberating people and society from energy constraints". The company provides cloud services for power retailing (known as BF Cloud) and operational support for solar and battery systems, leveraging technology to improve profitability and reduce operational burdens for a wide range of power plants.

By combining KS Energy’s established local business foundation with Bluefield Energy’s technological expertise, the partnership is set to tackle the pressing challenges faced by power producers in the region, facilitating the expanded adoption and stable utilization of renewable energy resources.

This business matching agreement emerged from discussions about potential collaborations following Bluefield Energy's investment from Higo Bank's Venture Fund.

Overview of the Agreement

Under this agreement, the partnership will integrate KS Energy’s community-centric business model with Bluefield Energy’s knowledge and technology related to solar power and battery operations. The collaboration will aim to enhance the value generation of local power producers and energy companies. The agreement outlines the following key solutions:

1. Support for Transitioning from FIT to FIP: Assisting energy producers in navigating the shift from Feed-In Tariff (FIT) to Feed-In Premium (FIP) models, ensuring they maximize financial benefits in a changing regulatory environment.
2. Operation Management for Solar Power Plants: Providing operational management services for solar facilities, including low-pressure and agricultural solar systems, to optimize their performance and reliability.
3. Assistance in Battery Integration: Offering support for integrating battery systems with solar power plants to harness additional benefits from hybrid setups.
4. Digital Transformation Services: Delivering a suite of digital transformation services, including the BF Cloud, to further enhance operational efficiency and data management capabilities.

Remarks from Bluefield Energy

Takahumi Shimada, CEO of Bluefield Energy, expressed enthusiasm about this partnership with KS Energy, stating, "We feel this agreement is tremendously significant for our efforts to promote renewable energy in the Kyushu region. As the adoption of renewable energy expands, the challenges around profitability in solar power operations and the effective use of batteries become increasingly diverse. By leveraging KS Energy’s local business foundation and our technological expertise, we aim to contribute to enhancing the business value of regional power and energy firms. We remain dedicated to maximizing the potential of decentralized energy sources and supporting the sustainable and stable utilization of renewable energy in the community."
