Two Chery TIGGO9 SUVs Showcase Unmatched Safety in Front Collision Test

Exceptional Safety Performance of Chery TIGGO9 SUVs in South Africa

On August 20, 2025, in a striking safety demonstration, two flagship Chery TIGGO9 SUVs engaged in a 50% offset frontal collision test at speeds of 50 km/h on a long, straight paved road located in South Africa. This test, reminiscent of two flawless diamonds clashing in the hands of an expert, showcased the advanced safety capabilities of the TIGGO9 vehicles, confirming that the strongest structures can withstand significant impacts without compromising occupant safety.

In the aftermath of the collision, both vehicle cabins retained their integrity without any deformation to the A, B, or C pillars. All airbags deployed as designed, including those for the driver, front passenger, and knee protection. Rapid activation of the seatbelt pretensioners ensured that occupants were secured, while all doors could be opened normally following the test. Additionally, the emergency lights activated automatically, and no fuel leaks were detected, underlining the excellent engineering and safety measures integrated into the TIGGO9.

The structural design of the TIGGO9 is commendable, utilizing 85% high-strength steel, with 21% being hot-formed steel rated at 1500 MPa specifically in critical areas such as the A and B pillars. The frontal structure includes two aluminum impact beams that cover 85% of the vehicle's width, along with six energy-absorbing crash boxes that efficiently dissipate impact energy. Adding to the safety suite are ten airbags, including a side curtain airbag measuring 2060 mm that maintains over 50% pressure for six seconds post-deployment, and a central airbag positioned between the front seats to mitigate secondary impact risks.

This collision test represents a crucial milestone in Chery's global six-dimensional safety challenge initiative. It is part of broader safety validations that the company has conducted in extreme environments, including locations like Indonesia and Mexico. Furthermore, as the first Chinese automobile manufacturer to achieve five million vehicle exports, Chery continues to gain recognition, having recently been included once more in the Fortune Global 500 list. This recognition reflects Chery's unwavering commitment to consistent quality, ensuring that wherever their vehicles drive, the fundamental safety structure remains as resilient and reliable as a diamond. This dedication aligns with their vision of “Let everyone enjoy five-star protection” and resonates with their core philosophy: “Safety, for Family.”

That evening, the TIGGO9 officially debuted in the South African market, bringing with it an invitation to a brighter future in automotive safety. The following day, Chery partnered with UNICEF to launch the
