Culinary Leaders Come Together at JRE Congress for Gastronomic Innovation and Sustainability

2026 International Congress of JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs: A Focus on the Future of Gastronomy

The vibrant city of Cologne played host to the 2026 International Congress of JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs, a landmark event that gathered over 500 culinary leaders from 21 different countries. Held on April 19-20, this congress was themed "RE•GENERATION – SEED THE FUTURE," aiming to explore innovation and sustainability in gastronomy.

The congress commenced with a spectacular Gala Dinner, showcasing a menu crafted by four renowned two-Michelin-star chefs. This event served as a celebration of regional culinary craftsmanship, further accentuating the importance of local identity in the global gastronomic landscape. Daniel Canzian, the International President of JRE, aptly stated, "RE-GENERATION is an invitation to reflect on how we evolve, enhance our culinary heritage, empower teams, and take a broader view beyond the kitchen."

A significant highlight of the congress was JRE's expansion into South America, welcoming founding members from Argentina, Chile, and Peru into the fold. This expansion not only broadens JRE's global community but also fosters a rich cross-cultural exchange among its members, enhancing the culinary dialogue across continents.

The event included the prestigious JRE-International Awards, which recognized outstanding contributions in various categories related to gastronomy. Among the notable winners were:
  • - Chef of the Year: Frédéric Morel from Pastificio dei Campi
  • - Sommelier of the Year: Johanna Roullier from Marchesi Antinori
  • - Hospitality Excellence: Jo Grootaers and Lana Kelchtermans
  • - Re•Generation Award: Massimiliano Mascia from Vaider Group
  • - Taste of Origin Award: Pasquale Carfora from Parmigiano Reggiano
  • - Sustainability Award: Sabina Grega Repovž from Marie-Stella-Maris

These accolades highlight individuals who are driving innovation and sustainable practices within the culinary field, showcasing the event's commitment to recognizing excellence.

Another significant discussion point was the evolving role of chefs in today's world. “We are no longer just chefs. We have transformed into entrepreneurial hosts whose success relies on how we empower our teams,” explained Nicolai Wiedmer, the International Vice President of JRE. Katrin Steindl, also a VP, emphasized the critical role of hospitality, asserting that outstanding service distinguishes the industry in which they operate.

The congress concluded with a festive celebration along the Rhine River, where partnerships were announced with UNITED WATERWAYS to advance the level of hospitality in river cruising and develop future talent through dedicated training opportunities.

As JRE continues to solidify its role as a forward-thinking community committed to creativity, sustainability, and entrepreneurship, Slovenia was revealed as the host nation for the next International Congress in 2028. This next step in the journey reflects JRE's dedication to promoting international culinary excellence and sustainable practices.
