International Genomics Conference 2024: Advancing Global Life Sciences at BGI Group's Headquarters

International Genomics Conference 2024 Opens at BGI Group HQ

The 19th Annual Meeting of the International Conference on Genomics (ICG-19) has commenced at the Global Headquarters of BGI Group in Shenzhen, China. This prestigious event has attracted over 100 leading genomics experts from across the globe, including representatives from the U.S., UK, Denmark, Australia, Singapore, and China. The conference aims to explore and discuss the latest breakthroughs and trends in the field of genomics and global life sciences.

The ICG-19 holds a rich history of over 18 years, having fostered collaboration among scientists and researchers, including multiple Nobel Laureates, and has reached an audience of more than 15 million worldwide. Its longstanding goal is to push the boundaries of genomics research and to facilitate the application of genomic findings to address critical global challenges.

During the opening day sessions, speakers emphasized the urgent necessity of utilizing genomic research to confront pressing issues that humanity faces, particularly in the realms of aging, public health, and biodiversity conservation. Dr. Siqi Liu, Chair of the ICG-19 Academic Committee and co-founder of BGI Group, underscored the commitment of BGI to transcend mere research efforts. His remarks highlighted a vision for applying genomic science in both industrial and healthcare settings.

Professor Huanming Yang, also a co-founder of BGI and Chair of the Organizing Committee for ICG-19, delivered an insightful keynote address illuminating major milestones in the field of genomics. He spoke about the ethical considerations that must guide genomic research, the importance of open data access, and the necessity of global collaboration to ensure that advancements benefit all of humanity. His presentation delved into transformative technologies such as single-cell transcriptomics and AI-driven sequencing methods, showcasing their significance in life sciences applications.

The four-day conference features an extensive agenda that includes discussions on diverse topics ranging from biodiversity and metagenomics to chronic diseases, public health strategies, precision medicine, and cutting-edge bioinformatics. The program aims to delve into gene editing techniques and biomanufacturing processes, all while promoting science education for future generations.

As part of the conference, Clarivate, a global data analytics firm, recognized several prominent figures included in their 2024
