Trailhead Begins Collaboration with Kikusui to Enhance Food Supply Chain in Japan

Trailhead and Kikusui: A Strategic Collaboration for Noodle Production

Trailhead Global Holdings, based in Shibuya, Tokyo, has officially announced its collaboration with Kikusui, a leading noodle manufacturer from Ebetsu, Hokkaido. This partnership aims to leverage the production capabilities of Trailhead’s subsidiary, Ys Food, to produce Kikusui’s fresh noodle products in an OEM setting. This venture emphasizes a commitment to enhancing the food supply chain across Japan, integrating advanced manufacturing processes and quality assurance standards that cater to the evolving market demands.

Three Pillars of Strategic Value

1. Fusion of Brand and Technology for a Cooperative Model

The collaboration between Trailhead and Kikusui represents a functional division of labor where Kikusui focuses on product design and sales, while Ys Food will handle the manufacturing. This cooperation exploits the strengths of both companies—Kikusui's robust brand recognition and extensive market reach alongside Trailhead’s advanced production technologies. Together, they plan to implement a highly responsive supply system, prepared to adapt to changing market conditions.

2. Establishing a Resilient Supply Chain

Stability in food supply is a pivotal concern in the food industry, especially in uncertain circumstances. This partnership will create a dual production base, with Kikusui in the North (Hokkaido) and Ys Food in the South (Kyushu). Such a geographically diversified model aims to minimize supply risks and ensure a consistent distribution of products, thereby establishing a sustainable food supply framework within Japan. This structure serves as a safety net against potential disruptions in the supply chain due to various external factors.

3. Long-term Growth Driven by Quality

Producing Kikusui’s products, known for their stringent quality standards, helps affirm the excellence of Ys Food’s manufacturing capabilities within the industry. Beginning in April 2026, this initiative expects to generate approximately 100 million yen in contracted manufacturing in its first year, targeting the Kyushu and Shikoku areas. Building upon this success, both companies aim to gradually expand their supply regions and explore collaborative product development, propelling the partnership into a vital revenue-generating business for both entities.

Vision of Enhanced Production Capabilities

The presidents of both companies express a united vision regarding the advancement of production infrastructure. Kikusui’s president, Kohki Haruna, emphasized the importance of maintaining quality during production and highlighted the necessity of building a sustainable supply model amidst evolving market landscapes. He finds the collaborative effort to be significant, as it shapes a decentralised production system that leverages the strengths of both parties for more stable supply.

On the other hand, Trailhead's president, Tokimitsu Takada, reflects that establishing a reliable production capability is crucial for their business strategy. This collaboration with Kikusui, a company with established national presence, aligns with their goal of enhancing their manufacturing reliability and contributing positively to the noodle industry’s future.
