Mars Partners with GoldenPeaks Capital to Accelerate Renewable Energy in Europe

Mars Signs Landmark Renewable Energy Agreement in Europe

In a significant move towards sustainability, Mars, Incorporated has entered into a partnership with GoldenPeaks Capital to accelerate its renewable energy initiatives across Europe. This partnership marks the beginning of a crucial effort to not only power Mars’ direct operations but to enhance the entire value chain with renewable energy sources.

Pioneering Renewable Energy in Europe

This new contract represents the first of its kind for Mars in Europe, as it aims to cover all direct operations with 100% renewable energy. GoldenPeaks Capital, known for its extensive involvement in renewable energy projects, will develop more than 100 solar projects in Poland. These initiatives are expected to provide over 129 MWac of clean energy, representing about 58% of the total project output. This capacity is sufficient to supply approximately 100,000 households annually, thereby playing a pivotal role in Poland's transition from coal to a low-carbon economy.

Mars has been proactive in its renewable energy strategy, and this collaboration is seen as an extension of the company’s commitment to operate sustainably. The energy produced will not only fulfill Mars' operational needs but also support broader efforts to reduce carbon emissions across its value chain.

Collaboration for a Greener Future

The contract, considered a pivotal step in renewable energy operations in Central and Eastern Europe, is set to go live by 2027. With a substantial 222 GWh of renewable energy expected to be produced each year, this initiative aligns perfectly with the EU's climate objectives while contributing to Mars’ sustainability goals.

In addition to Mars’ agreement, Cargill, one of its prominent suppliers, has also signed a contract with GoldenPeaks, thus enhancing the reach of these solar projects. This collaboration creates a powerful synergy, facilitating both companies in attaining their energy goals and showcasing the potential for industry-wide transitions towards clean energy.

Kevin Rabinovitch, Mars’ Global Vice President of Sustainability, expressed excitement over the momentum gained in their renewable energy program. He indicated that their ongoing partnerships illustrate a clear vision: transforming renewable energy into a standard operating practice in all Mars business locations. The anti-climate efforts require collective action, and partnerships such as these signify what is achievable when companies unite for a sustainable future.

GoldenPeaks: A Key Partner in Decarbonization

Adriano Agosti, founder and president of GoldenPeaks Capital, highlighted Mars’ role as a global leader that has creatively transformed its responsibilities into opportunities. He commended Mars for taking substantial action in terms of decarbonization across its value chain. The collaboration reflects a holistic approach to integrating all of Mars’ energy consumption into renewable markets.

Moreover, Mars has already started collaborations in North America with Enel, building a comprehensive global strategy to decarbonize its operations. The goal is to reduce Mars' overall carbon footprint by 10% by 2030, with a long-term ambition to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050.

The strategy encompasses various dimensions, including combating deforestation, promoting climate-smart agriculture, and improving transportation sustainability. Supporting these initiatives, Mars demonstrates its commitment to operationalizing sustainability at every level, aiming to forge a future where renewable energy plays a central role in its operations and global supply network.
