Vantage Foundation and KDM Foundation Join Forces to Empower Jakarta’s Street Children
In a heartfelt initiative aimed at creating a significant community impact, Vantage Foundation has partnered with the KDM Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Jakarta, Indonesia. This collaboration seeks to improve the lives of homeless children by focusing on education, creativity, and sustainable living practices.
A Welcoming Environment for Children
During a recent visit to the KDM campus, representatives from the Vantage Foundation were greeted by Sotar Sinaga, the Director of KDM Foundation. The director showcased the organization's comprehensive approach to youth development, which goes beyond mere shelter. KDM provides children an engaging and empowering environment where they can discover their potential through various activities, including painting, crafting, football, and environmental education.
What sets KDM apart is its self-sustaining ecosystem—housing a small farm that raises chickens and catfish, coupled with an organic waste management system. These initiatives are designed to meet practical needs while simultaneously educating the children about sustainability, responsibility, and self-reliance.
The Inspiring Pepe Doll Project
A particularly touching part of the visit was the introduction to the 'Pepe Doll' art project, created in collaboration with the local brand Tulisan. This project was inspired by a poignant story of a young girl searching for food on the streets. Proceeds from the sale of these dolls are directly funneled to support KDM's mission of providing education and shelter for children in dire need.
KDM's outreach efforts extend far beyond its campus. They employ football as a powerful engagement tool—not just as a sport, but as a medium to teach life's vital lessons: discipline, cooperation, and teamwork. By organizing community matches, KDM fosters trust and creates protective spaces where vulnerable youth can find guidance and inspiration.
Sotar Sinaga articulates KDM's community-centric philosophy succinctly, stating, "We don’t call it fundraising – we call it friend raising. Without friends, we cannot run our school or sustain these life-changing projects. It’s the community that keeps us going."
Collective Impact to Shape Futures
Through this collaboration, Vantage Foundation proudly stands alongside KDM Foundation in their mission to cultivate a brighter future for Indonesia's underprivileged children. The Vantage team was profoundly moved by the joy, resilience, and creativity they observed during their visit, underscoring the importance of investing in early, inclusive support for at-risk youth.
Steven Xie, the Executive Director of Vantage Foundation, shared his thoughts: "The environment at KDM is filled with hope and opportunity. Every child we met carried a spark of potential, and it’s through partnerships like this that we can help them realize it. We are honored to support KDM’s incredible work and help amplify their impact."
Together, Vantage Foundation and KDM Foundation are not merely providing shelter; they are shaping futures, building self-confidence, and nurturing connections within the community. This collaboration signifies yet another meaningful step in Vantage Foundation's ongoing mission to uplift communities and foster lasting change.
