Exploring Diversity Through Art at 'TOKYO CITY POP' Gallery Project Vol.5

Discovering Art and Diversity at TREES

The 'TOKYO CITY POP' gallery project is a vibrant celebration of modern art, hosted at the unique TREES – studio & market located along the picturesque Meguro River, surrounded by cherry blossom trees. This initiative aims to brighten people's daily lives with delightful art, inviting visitors to connect with a multitude of artists and their creative expressions.

For its fifth edition, the project presents the theme of "- contrast -," emphasizing the beauty of coexistence among diverse identities in today’s society. Two talented artists, TAIKI and Kawazoe Haruna, will showcase their contrasting artistic styles, promising a captivating experience for all attendees.

The Artists

TAIKI is known for his striking patchwork technique, which embodies the essence of diversity through art. Born in 1994 and having roots in both Japan and Korea, TAIKI graduated from the Fashion Design Department at the Vantan Design Institute. He has participated in exhibitions such as the Independent Tokyo 2024 and received the Tagboat Special Award. TAIKI's work utilizes various shapes and patterns to portray the beauty found in individuality, effectively making each piece a unique entity.

His artistic philosophy is anchored in the idea that distinct backgrounds and personal characteristics can harmoniously coexist. TAIKI expresses this through a diverse array of colors, inviting viewers to find their "own colors."

Kawazoe Haruna, on the other hand, offers a dreamy artistic world where soft hues and delicate line art blur the lines between reality and dreams. Having spent her high school years in Korea, Haruna pursued her love for animation at Musashino Art University in Japan. Her goal is to spread smiles and courage through her art, particularly utilizing acrylics and digital mediums.

In her exhibition, she aims to capture the sparkling moments of everyday life, focusing on marbles and transparent objects that interact with light. Haruna hopes her work will engage viewers and encourage them to appreciate the beauty in both themselves and their surroundings.

An Experience of Harmony

The collaboration between these two artists brings forth a fascinating dialogue through their distinct expressions. Despite their differences, the artwork of TAIKI and Kawazoe Haruna resonates within the same space, creating an enriching visual experience. The contrast in their styles highlights the vibrancy of colors and forms, reminding everyone that individuality is something to embrace.

As you visit TREES studio & market, you are encouraged to reflect on the messages conveyed through the artworks: "You are perfect just the way you are."
