SWI Group Unveils Plans for Fifth Hyperscale Data Center
SWI Group, a prominent alternative investment platform formed by Stoneweg Group and Icona Capital, has announced ambitious plans to expand its European hyperscale data strategy by establishing a new data center in the UK. This facility, the first of its kind for the group in the region, will be strategically located in Sutton-in-the-Isle, Cambridgeshire.
As the demand for cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions continues to surge across Europe, the new data center will play a crucial role in meeting this need. With an impressive final capacity of 330 megawatts (MW), it is set to be one of the largest data centers in the country, part of a broader network of five hyperscale facilities under the newly branded AiOnX platform.
The UK facility is situated within the 'Golden Triangle' of technology operators, connecting iconic cities such as Cambridge, Oxford, and London. This location is pivotal for the tech community, promising to bolster the region's position as a leading hub for innovation. SWI Group's strategy aims to create a total capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW) across its five centers, which include existing facilities in Ireland, Denmark, Spain, and Italy.
Max-Hervé George, the President and Co-CEO of SWI Group, expressed his enthusiasm about the expansion: "When we began developing data centers six years ago, we anticipated a dramatic rise in computing demand. However, the rapid growth of AI has even exceeded our expectations. We are thrilled to add the Cambridgeshire site to our portfolio of hyperscale centers, remaining steadfast in our commitment to establish one of Europe's most valuable data center groups."
In a related development, Stoneweg Europe Stapled Trust, part of SWI Group, has announced a €50 million investment to acquire a minority stake in AiOnX (previously known as IDC). This strategic decision reflects their confidence in the future of the data center market and its geographical advantages.
SWI Group is not unfamiliar with the landscape of alternative investments, operating across various sectors including real estate, credit, and financial services. The firm emphasizes thorough research, direct knowledge, and efficient strategy implementation to unlock the highest potential returns.
With over €10 billion in assets under management and a dedicated team of 350 professionals spread across 26 global offices, SWI Group is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the expanding data center market. The AiOnX data centers are strategically located to ensure operational efficiency and scalability.
Here's a quick look at the locations of the AiOnX data centers managed by SWI Group:

The establishment of the fifth data center in the UK marks an important milestone in the strategic vision of SWI Group. It reflects the increasing global emphasis on data handling capacities and the critical role that cloud services play in supporting tech advancements, particularly as artificial intelligence continues to redefine digital landscapes.
As the tech industry grapples with exponential data growth, the necessity for robust infrastructure becomes paramount. SWI Group's latest initiative not only aims to address immediate computing needs but positions the firm as a forward-thinking leader in the data center sector. By investing over €20 billion across all five sites, SWI Group is set to become a heavyweight player in the European data center ownership landscape, underscoring the critical intersection of technology and investment in today's economy.
