Moody's Assigns First Issuer Rating to Sky Protocol with Stable Outlook

Moody's Ratings Assigns First Issuer Rating to Sky Protocol

On October 7, 2026, the Sky Frontier Foundation proudly announced a significant milestone for Sky Protocol as Moody's Ratings assigned it a B3 issuer rating, alongside a stable outlook. This marks a historic moment as it is the very first time that Moody's has issued a rating for any stablecoin protocol. Following a similar rating of B- from SP Global Ratings in the recent weeks, Sky Protocol stands out as the only stablecoin protocol evaluated by two of the leading credit rating agencies.

The process undertaken by both Moody's and SP Global Ratings involved distinct evaluation methods, each with its own set of criteria. The independent ratings obtained by Sky Protocol allow institutional investors to assess the protocol against established credit rating standards, a unique position that no other stablecoin protocol currently holds.

A formal credit rating is crucial for Sky Protocol's broader strategy to increase its reserves, demonstrating that its governance and operational practices have undergone thorough assessment by an impartial entity. Moody's recognized the significance of Sky Reserves, a focus that the Foundation strongly aligns with. Recently, Sky Governance has enhanced its Treasury Management Function and initiated a Stage 2 buyback strategy, whereby a portion of the Net Protocol Revenue is retained to elevate Sky Reserves toward a minimum target set by governance.

Building these reserves demands time, but it remains a top priority for Sky Protocol. Real-time metrics detailing these reserves are accessible to the public at Sky Financial Management.

Greg Feibus, Global Head of Capital Markets for Sky Frontier Foundation, expressed gratitude for the rigorous analysis provided by Moody's. He stated, "The value of independent credit ratings is profound, allowing institutional investors to consider Sky through established frameworks prevalent in global markets. Securing multiple independent assessments presents a clearer and more comparable view of Sky’s creditworthiness. We are diligently focused on enhancing our level of Sky Reserves, aligning with the insights highlighted by Moody's."

Both Moody's and SP Global Ratings detailed aspects that could improve Sky Protocol's creditworthiness in the future. In response, Sky Governance and the Foundation are currently evaluating these factors, with a comprehensive roadmap soon to be published. Achieving a higher capital ratio is an objective for Sky Governance, with long-term aspirations aimed at reaching an investment-grade rating.
